This week, Walt Disney World Resort replaced some traditional elements of the Morocco World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT. This update comes amid a sweeping wave of replacements across the park that have threatened a popular festival tradition among Central Florida Disney Park guests.

On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort had installed multiple solar-powered trash and recycling bins in the Morocco World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT. The outlet shared a photo of two of the new cans, which include an EPCOT World Showcase emblem and a hygienic foot pedal.

Morocco is the latest EPCOT World Showcase Pavilion to receive this solar-powered trash can update. They recently appeared in the Mexico, American Adventure, and Germany World Showcase Pavilions, as well as the Refreshment Outpost area located between the China and Germany World Showcase Pavilions. The same model has also popped up at Magic Kingdom Park.

The trash cans feature solar-powered compactors that crush garbage and recycling, allowing a higher volume of waste to accumulate before custodial cast members have to swap out the bags. Walt Disney World Resort even revealed an indoor version in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion, which features the same hygienic foot pedal, brown color, and general design–without the solar panels on top.

What appears at first to be an environmentally friendly, efficient, and hygienic update for Disney cast members and theme park guests has sparked debate among fans. During busy seasonal events like the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival and the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, trash cans often become high-top dining tables for guests grabbing small bites and drinks from kiosks around the World Showcase Lagoon.

With their curved tops, these solar-powered trash cans are impossible to place small trays and drink cups on–effectively reducing the available dining areas for EPCOT guests.
