Disney parks are facing five days of amended nighttime spectaculars due to a new legal restriction.

Heat has taken its toll on multiple Disney parks this summer. For the second day in a row, Walt Disney World Resort is under a heat advisory as heat index values sit at roughly 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Portable fans have been deployed to cool cast members, with attendance also soft due to the ongoing conditions.

Magic Kingdom has also made adjustments to Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade this week, with costumed characters moved to the floats while face characters take their place walking on the ground. The park has also previously made changes to Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, slashing the show’s runtime in front of Cinderella Castle to reduce the amount of time cast members (and guests) spend in the midday sun.

Meanwhile, over at Disneyland Paris, heatwaves have forced alterations to daily parades. In June, costumed characters were scrapped from Disney Stars on Parade, leaving only face characters and dancers to entertain guests. Certain meet-and-greet characters were also removed or adjusted, while outdoor attractions were forced to close.

Now, local authorities have stepped in to force a change to daily operations.

Fireworks Ban Hits Disney Parks

Effective today, local authorities have placed a temporary ban on fireworks, meaning Disney’s nighttime spectaculars face major adjustments.

Fireworks, pyrotechnic displays, bonfires, and campfires are prohibited across outdoor public and private spaces in the department. The measure was introduced because extreme heat has created an exceptional risk of fire.

The ban runs from noon today (July 10, 2026) until July 15, 2026. During this period, officials will also suspend the processing and approval of any exceptional permits allowing the use of fire.

Disneyland Paris currently runs the nighttime spectacular Disney Tales of Magic at Disneyland Park, which relies heavily on pyrotechnics – particularly since the park scrapped all drones from the show.

It’s currently unclear how Disney plans to adjust its performances. However, with drones still permitted, it’s safe to assume the resort may substitute pyrotechnics for drones – or instead lean solely on projections.

Most notably, the ban overlaps with Bastille Day on July 14. Held annually in France, the national holiday commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and the beginning of the French Revolution. It is typically marked by a special show at Disneyland Paris. This year is theoretically set to usher in a brand-new show that features Tinker Bell and several Disney IPs based in France, such as Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Ratatouille, and The Aristocats.

Other planned shows for Bastille Day have already been axed in towns and cities across France. Today, temperatures sit at 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The same temperatures are slated for Bastille Day.

With global temperatures rising, theme parks have been forced to make adjustments. Recent openings – such as Universal Kids Resort – have been slated for their lack of shade and indoor attractions. Meanwhile, SeaWorld has blamed “unusual heat” for a decline in attendance.
