During a recent ride, insiders noticed the attraction no longer references Carousel of Progress as vehicles glide past the iconic theater building. Rather than replacing the dialogue with new narration, Disney simply removed the entire segment.
As the PeopleMover rounds the show building, guests now hear…nothing.
The silence marks one of the first operational changes reflecting the attraction’s recent closure. With Carousel of Progress now beginning its extensive multi-year reimagining, Disney could no longer keep narration claiming the attraction was actively welcoming guests inside.
The Original Narration Had Become Impossible to Ignore
For years, the PeopleMover proudly introduced riders to one of Walt Disney’s most personal creations.
The now-retired narration told guests:
“We’re now approaching Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress… First presented at the New York World’s Fair, this legendary circular theater celebrates the progress that has made our better. It’s a perfect reminder that there’s always a great big beautiful tomorrow…”
The recording continued by telling guests:
“Just like progress, we keep moving ahead, and so does the Carousel. Like progress itself, this theater never stops…”
That final line suddenly became impossible to reconcile with reality.
Carousel of Progress is now closed and expected to remain unavailable through 2027 as Disney undertakes its ambitious reimagining of the classic attraction. Continuing to tell guests that “the theater never stops” while it sat dormant behind construction walls would have created an awkward contradiction.
Instead, Disney appears to have opted for the simplest solution: remove the narration entirely.
Fans Are Already Reading Between the Lines
On paper, removing a short narration segment might seem insignificant.
For many Disney fans, however, it’s surprisingly emotional.
The PeopleMover has long functioned as a narrated tour of Tomorrowland’s greatest landmarks. Every attraction mention reinforces the land’s identity and reminds riders of Disney’s optimistic vision of the future.

Most recently, the Walt Disney World Railroad received updated onboard announcements while Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was closed, ensuring guests still heard relevant commentary as the train passed Frontierland.
That makes the PeopleMover decision stand out.
Instead of commissioning temporary narration, Disney has chosen to let guests experience a brief pause where Carousel of Progress was once celebrated. Whether that’s a temporary placeholder or a sign that a larger narration update is coming remains unclear.
Given the attraction’s expected closure into 2027, many fans wouldn’t be surprised if a newly recorded script eventually fills the gap.
Tomorrowland Is Quietly Entering a New Chapter
It’s easy to dismiss narration updates as routine operational housekeeping.
