Anyone hoping to take part in one of Disney’s most popular race weekends will want to act quickly. Registration for the 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend officially opens today, and if history is any indication, many of the event’s races won’t be available for long.

Disney has already opened its virtual waiting room ahead of the 10:00 a.m. ET registration launch, giving runners a chance to be ready before the rush begins. While entering the waiting room early can help you avoid last-minute scrambling, Disney makes it clear that simply arriving first doesn’t guarantee an early place in line.

For runDisney veterans, registration day has become almost as competitive as race weekend itself. Thousands of runners typically log in within minutes of registration opening, hoping to secure a bib before events reach capacity.

How the runDisney Waiting Room Works

Guests who want to register should head to the Springtime Surprise Weekend page on the runDisney website and select the option to enter the waiting room before registration officially begins.

Once inside, participants should remain on the page and allow it to refresh automatically. Disney advises runners not to manually reload the browser or navigate away while waiting for registration to open.

One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding runDisney registration is that getting into the waiting room hours early guarantees a better position in line. That’s not the case.

According to Disney’s registration process, everyone already inside the waiting room before 10:00 a.m. ET is randomly assigned a place in the virtual queue once registration begins. That means someone who entered just a few minutes before the launch could end up ahead of someone who joined much earlier.

However, there is one important advantage to arriving before registration opens.

Anyone who joins the waiting room after 10:00 a.m. ET is placed behind everyone who was already waiting. Those later arrivals enter the queue on a first-in, first-out basis, meaning they’ll have to wait until everyone already assigned a random position has had their opportunity to register.

Your Spot Isn’t Guaranteed Until You Pay

Even after making it through the virtual queue, runners still have one more important hurdle.

Disney notes that a registration isn’t officially secured until the payment process has been completed successfully. Simply reaching the checkout page doesn’t reserve a bib indefinitely.

Once the transaction has been finalized, participants will receive a confirmation email at the address they provided during registration. Until that confirmation arrives, runners shouldn’t assume their registration is complete.

Because of the high demand for these weekends, experienced runDisney participants often recommend having payment information ready ahead of time and moving through checkout as efficiently as possible.

Four Events Make Up the Weekend

The 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend will take place April 8 through April 11, 2027, at Walt Disney World Resort. This year’s overall theme celebrates the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios with race themes inspired by beloved animated characters across several decades.

The race lineup includes four registration options.

The weekend begins with the 5K on April 9, featuring Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz as the event’s theme. Registration costs $125.

On April 10, runners can take on the 10K, inspired by Robin Hood alongside Prince John and Sir Hiss. Entry for that race is $175.

The signature 10-Miler takes place April 11 and features Alice and the Cheshire Cat. Registration is priced at $239.

For those looking to complete every race, Disney once again offers the Springtime Surprise Challenge. Participants who finish the 5K, 10K, and 10-Miler over the course of the weekend will complete 19.3 total miles. The challenge, themed to Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, costs $555.

Popular Event Continues to Sell Out

runDisney weekends have developed a reputation for filling quickly, especially as participation has grown over the past several years.

Major race weekends frequently see individual events disappear within hours, while some of the most popular races sell out even faster. That has made registration day one of the most anticipated parts of the runDisney calendar, with many runners preparing multiple devices and logging in well before registration begins.

The Springtime Surprise Weekend has become particularly popular because it offers a unique race format and themed experiences that differ from Disney’s other race weekends.

While availability varies from year to year, Disney has already warned prospective participants that these races are expected to sell out, making early preparation especially important.

Fans Continue Debating the Registration Process

As with previous runDisney registration days, the virtual waiting room has once again sparked discussion among longtime participants.

Some runners appreciate the randomized system because it prevents people from gaining an advantage simply by joining hours before registration opens. Others continue to argue that the process can feel unpredictable, especially after previous registration events where some participants reported mixed experiences with the virtual queue.

The checkout process has also remained a frequent topic of conversation, with runners hoping for smooth transactions once they finally reach the registration page.

Despite those ongoing debates, demand for runDisney events has remained remarkably strong. Every registration cycle brings another wave of eager participants hoping to combine a Walt Disney World vacation with races that feature exclusive medals, entertainment, character appearances, and unique themes that can’t be found anywhere else.

For anyone planning to participate in Springtime Surprise Weekend 2027, preparation is key. Having your runDisney account ready, entering the waiting room before registration opens, and completing checkout promptly can make all the difference when thousands of runners are competing for a limited number of race bibs. With registration now underway and demand expected to be high once again, those interested won’t want to wait long before joining the queue.
