Amidst a flurry of Star Wars-themed May the Fourth merchandise, limited-time food & beverages, and special announcements, Walt Disney World Resort quietly revived part of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The immersive hotel closed in 2023 after just 18 months of operation.

Earlier this year, Walt Disney World Resort quietly renamed Docking Bay 3 in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Docking Bay 6. It was a minor signage adjustment in the area where Disney Park guests once disembarked and boarded shuttles between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the Galactic Starcruiser hotel. Fans assumed Disney was simply trying to distance itself from the failed project.

Despite a small yet passionate fanbase for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (which cost at least $4,000 for a three-night voyage), Walt Disney World Resort has made it clear that the immersive hotel isn’t coming back. The company is currently transforming it into an office building for Walt Disney Imagineering.

On May the Fourth, however, Walt Disney World Resort restored the connection to Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests lining up to collect their mobile-ordered popcorn buckets noticed that the Docking Bay 6 sign had been removed, and Disney had restored the original Docking Bay 3 signage. BlogMickey shared this photo on Facebook:

It’s unclear why Walt Disney World Resort chose to revive the former name, or why it changed to Docking Bay 6 in the first place. There are, obviously, no more shuttles running between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Disney may have been considering a new restaurant, shop, or other experience for the Docking Bay 6 area in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge before deciding to keep the space as it was during the Star Wars hotel’s operation.
