Paramount is continuing to expand the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, with a new slate spanning film, TV, gaming, comic books, literature, and real-world experiences.

New TMNT Content and Experiences

Firstly, a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) is in development and set for release in August 2027, while a YouTube series, Teeny Mutant Ninja Turtles, is arriving later this year. There’s also a virtual-reality game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Empire City, releasing in late April.

Beyond the screen, Paramount is launching Ninja Turtles-themed pizzerias in Santa Monica, Monterrey, Mexico, and São Paulo, Brazil, later this year.

Canceled Projects and New Reboots

However, this new wave of content comes with a major downside, as the planned R-rated live-action adaptation of IDW Publishing’s comic book series The Last Ronin (2020) was canceled last year, with Paramount instead opting to move forward with an as-yet-untitled family-friendly CG/live-action hybrid reboot, now scheduled for release in November 2028.

But despite that change, The Last Ronin will move on in other formats. A “Triple A” video game based on the property is reportedly in development, while IDW continues to expand the comic universe. The next addition, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — Training Day (2026), is set to arrive later this year, with cover art and a release now shared.

TMNT: The Last Ronin Lives On

According to NickAlive!, Training Day is a one-shot prequel set between issues #3 and #4 of The Last Ronin, focusing on Michelangelo during a 24-hour period as he trains Casey Marie Jones, the daughter of April O’Neil and Casey Jones.

The story continues the narrative threads established in The Last Ronin and Lost Years, further expanding what has become known as the “Ronin-verse,” which also includes Lost Day and The Last Ronin II: Re-Evolution, stories that focus on a new generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Odyn, Yi, Moja, and Uno.

Looking ahead, another full Last Ronin comic series is expected to follow, continuing the franchise’s exploration of this darker timeline. Meanwhile, TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, who co-wrote the critically acclaimed bestseller, told Entertainment Weekly in February that he thinks the R-rated film adaptation has only been temporarily shelved.

We’re also getting a novelized version of the original comic releasing this June.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — Training Day is scheduled for release on July 9, 2026. Pre-orders are now available.
