It’s April 1, and Walt Disney World Resort guests are reporting more unannounced changes to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s what fans of the Lucasfilm-themed land need to know.
A Lengthy Construction Project in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Construction walls and scrim were originally installed around the courtyard next to Savi’s Workshop last August. However, no work was visible in the area until earlier this year, when Central Florida Disney Park guests noticed new support poles near the merchandise location in Batuu.
Finally, a few days ago, Walt Disney World Resort quietly revealed what the support poles were for.
New Canopies Near Savi’s Workshop

On Wednesday, WDWNT reported that Disney had installed several new canopies above the courtyard next to Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The first identical canopy appeared on March 30. The outlet shared this photo on Facebook:
The canopies provide shade and a bit of relief from the heat in the concrete jungle that is Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They’re strung between tall poles, covering areas that existing umbrellas and awnings did not.
Savi’s Workshop, the build-your-own-lightsaber experience, remains open throughout the construction. As always, though, reservations are required.

Walt Disney World Resort has not commented publicly on this lengthy refurbishment project in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. These cosmetic changes come as both Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios prepare to update the timeline of the Star Wars-themed area, leaving half of the land set in the sequel era, while the other half shifts to the original trilogy. Characters like Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader will appear on Batuu when the shift takes effect later this year.
Disneyland Resort will implement this shift on April 29, but Walt Disney World Resort has yet to confirm an exact date. Stay tuned to Inside the Magic for updates on this and other projects at Disney parks around the world!
