For years, EPCOT has carried a reputation that no other Disney park quite shares. Yes, it’s known for its international pavilions, stunning architecture, and incredible food offerings. But for many adult guests, the park has also become synonymous with one unofficial activity: “drinking around the world.”
The tradition started innocently enough. Guests would grab a beverage in one pavilion, stroll over to the next country, and repeat the process. It became a casual way to explore World Showcase while sampling drinks from around the world. Over time, though, that simple idea turned into something much bigger.
Recently, many longtime Disney fans have started asking the same question: has it gone too far?
After a series of incidents involving intoxicated guests, heated confrontations, and even arrests, the atmosphere around EPCOT’s drinking culture is starting to shift. The tradition that once felt like a fun adult activity is now forcing Disney to step in.
The Rise of “Drinking Around the World”
EPCOT was never originally designed as a party park. When the park opened in 1982, it focused on global culture, technology, and education. But the World Showcase layout eventually created the perfect environment for guests to sample international drinks.
Before long, visitors began attempting the now-famous “drink around the world” challenge. The goal is simple: purchase a drink in every country pavilion around the lagoon.
Social media helped fuel the trend. Guests began sharing photos of colorful cocktails, creative beers, and themed beverages from each pavilion. Bachelorette parties, bachelor groups, and large celebrations started planning entire trips around the activity.
The popularity of EPCOT’s International Food & Wine Festival only amplified the trend. The annual event introduces dozens of temporary food booths, many of which feature specialty alcoholic beverages.
With so many drink options packed into one loop around the lagoon, it didn’t take long for the festival to become known as one of the biggest drinking events at Walt Disney World.
For many guests, it’s still a fun experience. But for others, the environment has started to feel less like a theme park and more like a rowdy nightlife district.

When the Atmosphere Starts Getting Out of Hand
Over the past few years, stories about guest behavior at EPCOT have become increasingly common. What used to be the occasional overindulgent visitor has become a steady stream of incidents circulating online.
Guests frequently report arguments, disruptive behavior, and people being escorted out of the park. Security interventions are no longer rare moments that surprise visitors.
Instead, they’ve become something many guests expect to see by the evening hours.
Social media threads and park forums are filled with stories about intoxicated guests yelling, stumbling through crowds, or causing problems around World Showcase. Some of these stories involve arguments between guests. Others involve confrontations with Cast Members trying to maintain order.
The situation has reached the point where some visitors say the atmosphere after sunset feels completely different from the family-friendly park Disney originally envisioned.

Guest Stories Highlight the Growing Problem
Several firsthand accounts circulating online paint a vivid picture of what guests are seeing inside the park.
One guest described witnessing a confrontation near one of EPCOT’s most popular attractions. According to their post, a cast member and an intoxicated guest ended up arguing near the queue area for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
“Did anyone catch the cast member and the drunk guy get into it outside of the Guardians queue?” the guest wrote. “They had to be pulled apart, and several people ran over to break it up. Never seen something like that here before.”
Another visitor shared a story about a large group celebration that spiraled out of control.
They explained that they overheard someone on the parking tram discussing how Cast Members eventually caught up with a guest and escorted him out of the park. The individual had apparently been part of a large group wearing matching wedding party shirts.
The guest said it must have been a huge celebration gathering and added that the situation looked pretty embarrassing for both the individual and the entire group.
Stories like these have become so common that many Disney fans no longer see them as rare events.

Some Guests Are Avoiding World Showcase Entirely
Other reports focus on how the atmosphere can shift dramatically throughout the day.
One visitor described leaving the World Showcase early because the environment had become so uncomfortable.
They said the yelling and disruptive behavior pushed them out of the area before sunset. Drinks were getting spilled, people were bumping into others, and the smell of alcohol lingered throughout the crowd.
By around 7 p.m., they decided they had had enough.
They also noticed something else as they left: most families with younger children had already moved toward the front of the park. Outside of attractions like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After, there were very few kids remaining in the area.
According to that guest, it felt like families were actively avoiding the World Showcase once the drinking crowd took over.

The Infamous “Drunk Streaker of EPCOT”
One of the most shocking incidents to circulate recently involved a guest who took things far beyond simple rowdy behavior.
On May 24, a man reportedly removed his clothes and ran through the American Adventure Pavilion in EPCOT. The incident happened in full view of other guests and families visiting the park.
Witnesses described the situation as chaotic, with security quickly moving in once the guest began attracting attention. The man allegedly exposed himself in front of hundreds of visitors before being stopped by Walt Disney World security.
The incident quickly spread across social media and news outlets, becoming known among fans as the “drunk streaker of EPCOT.”
For many Disney fans, that moment symbolized how far the park’s drinking culture had drifted from its original spirit.

Disney Begins Taking Stronger Action
In response to the growing number of incidents, Disney has reportedly started taking a firmer stance.
Guests who become excessively intoxicated or disruptive are increasingly being escorted out of the park. In some cases, local law enforcement has been called to handle situations that escalate beyond what security can manage.
Some individuals have reportedly been banned from Walt Disney World following incidents of aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
While Disney has always had policies against disorderly conduct, enforcement appears to be increasing as the company works to protect the park’s family-friendly atmosphere.
Looking ahead, Disney could explore several options to reduce these issues. The company might limit drink purchases for guests showing clear signs of intoxication, increase security presence in World Showcase during peak festival nights, or expand cast member authority to refuse alcohol service.
Another possible solution could involve adjusting how alcohol-focused events are marketed so that the park’s cultural experiences remain the main focus.

A Balancing Act for EPCOT’s Future
EPCOT has always been a unique park within Walt Disney World. Its global pavilions, festivals, and culinary offerings create experiences that naturally appeal to adults.
But it’s still a Disney theme park first and foremost.
Families with children, longtime Disney fans, and responsible adult guests all share the same spaces. When disruptive behavior becomes common, it affects everyone’s experience.
Disney now appears to recognize that balancing EPCOT’s popular food and beverage culture with its family-friendly environment is becoming more important than ever.
If the company continues tightening enforcement and addressing the issue head-on, the park could find a healthier middle ground—one where guests can still enjoy a drink around the world without the experience turning into something entirely different from what EPCOT was meant to be.
