The Disneyland Railroad takes guests around the original Southern California Disney park, with stops in Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, Mickey’s Toontown, and Main Street, U.S.A. Along the 20-25 minute journey, guests experience dioramas of the Primeval World and the Grand Canyon, and travel through the inside of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (formerly Splash Mountain).

An avid locomotive enthusiast, Walt Disney insisted that a real-life steam train border Disneyland Park. In the 1950s, the entertainment mogul built a 1/8-scale steam train in his backyard, naming it the Carolwood Pacific Railroad. The miniature freight train was called the Lilley Belle in honor of his beloved wife. The trend of steam trains bordering “castle parks” continued around the world, including at Walt Disney World Resort.

Two days ago, the official Disney Parks YouTube channel posted a 12-minute “sights and sounds” video of the Disneyland Railroad as part of the Southern California theme park’s 70th anniversary celebration, which began last summer. In an official announcement about the 4K footage on X (formerly known as Twitter), Disneyland Resort quoted Walt Disney’s vision for the vacation destination:

“I just want it to look like nothing else in the world. And it should be surrounded by a train.” — Walt Disney
