A Disneyland Resort guest is accused of seriously risking the safety of others with an intentional act at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Photos from the incident show a large piece of plastic thrown into a gas-powered fireplace near the uncovered entrance to a gas-powered fireplace outside Hearthstone Lounge.
Disneyland Guest Risks Safety of Others

On January 29, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DisneyScoopGuy was visiting Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa when they witnessed another visitor make a shocking decision. The Disneyland Resort guest appeared to wrap a letter around a plastic rose and throw it into a gas-powered fireplace, near where many families were lounging or waiting to enter Hearthstone Lounge. The social media user shared photos of the item inside the fireplace, writing:
Someone wrapped a letter around a fake rose and attempted to throw it in the gas powered fireplace outside Hearthstone Lounge at the Grand Californian Hotel.Throwing flammable materials into a gas powered fireplace isn’t just dumb, it’s also incredibly dangerous.

Throwing a plastic item into a gas-powered fire has several serious risks. The item could feed the controlled flames and burn people nearby, or ignite flammable materials outside the fireplace. Burning plastic, especially in a gas-powered fireplace, also releases toxic fumes that could cause or exacerbate health issues for humans and animals in the area.

Fortunately, it looks like the plastic rose and attached paper fell behind the artificial logs and nearly missed the open flames. Disney cast members likely retrieved the item as soon as they realized it was there.
It doesn’t appear that anyone was injured in the incident, and it’s unclear whether the person who threw the rose into the fireplace faced consequences. Disneyland Resort did not publicly respond to the social media post about the guest’s behavior.
What to Do in a Similar Situation

If you witness dangerous or rule-breaking behavior from a Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort guest, do not intervene. The safest thing to do is alert the nearest Disney cast member, who is trained on company protocol and can page security or law enforcement if necessary.
