The new DC Universe (AKA the DCU) is steadily taking shape following the launch of Superman in 2025. Directed by DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn, the film introduced David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, establishing the foundation for the studio’s long-term plans.

Now, the next major chapter is already on the way, with Supergirl set to continue expanding the DCU. Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El, having made a cameo appearance at the end of Superman.

We’ve already had the first official trailer for Supergirl, but it drew attention again last weekend when its second teaser premiered during the Super Bowl broadcast, marking the latest push toward its release.

The project is part of DC Studios’ first wave of films and series, collectively titled Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Batman is also set to play a major role in that lineup through The Brave and the Bold. That film will introduce the DCU’s version of Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne, who becomes Robin, and is being directed by Andy Muschietti, who previously helmed 2023’s The Flash.

While the Batman project remains in development, it represents the introduction of Batman within the new interconnected DCU timeline rather than existing as a continuation of Matt Reeves’ separate franchise that launched with 2022’s The Batman.

But before Bruce Wayne returns, DC Studios is shifting focus toward one of Batman’s long-standing adversaries. The upcoming film Clayface will spotlight the classic villain in a standalone story rooted in body horror, and the film has now confirmed at least six cast members, led by Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, an actor whose life changes after his face is disfigured and he undergoes experimental treatment that transforms him into Clayface.

Joining Harries are Naomi Ackie as Dr. Caitlin Bates, described as a fringe scientist and Hagen’s love interest, and Max Minghella as a Gotham City police detective connected to Bates. Eddie Marsan and David Dencik have also been cast in undisclosed roles, with additional supporting characters rounding out the film’s ensemble.

Directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, Clayface was recently pushed back to October 23, 2026.
