It seems Netflix isn’t wasting any time cashing in on Stranger Things‘ ongoing popularity. The main series, which started in 2016, ended on the streamer just over a month ago (December 31), and while it received a fair amount of backlash from fans (two words: Conformity Gate), there’s no denying the franchise remains hugely popular with the masses.
A New Stranger Things Series Is Coming
Stranger Things is a multimedia franchise that includes comic books, novels, video games, VR titles, stage plays, theme park experiences, and lots more. So it was hardly surprising when an animated series was announced last year.
Tales From ’85 will be the first spinoff series following the flagship show (a live-action project is also currently in development). Set between season 2 and 3 during the winter of 1985, it follows Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max (all voiced by new actors) as they face new threats from the Upside Down.

Tales From ’85 Trailer Premieres
Not much has been revealed since the announcement teaser a few months ago besides some additional images of the characters in action, yesterday, February 1, Stranger Things shared a new Tales From ’85 poster across social media, which shows Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and newcomer Nikki Baxter in the snow facing a never-before-seen Upside Down monster.
Captioned with the poster are the words “teaser tomorrow” (turned upside down, of course).

Now, just as promised, the first trailer for Tales From ’85 has arrived. Watch it below:
The new series certainly looks like it’s continuing with the same mood and tone of the live-action series, but, as the trailer also suggests, it will be catered towards a more family-friendly audience, aided of course by the brighter visuals and overall aesthetic.
Either way, it’s incredibly exciting to see the main gang, including the likes of Steve Harrington, back in the fold.
Tales From ’85 Cast and Release Date
Tales From ’85 stars Brett Gipson (Jim Hopper), Luca Diaz (Mike Wheeler), Brooklyn Davey Norstedt (Eleven), Braxton Quinney (Dustin Henderson), Elisha Williams (Lucas Sinclair), Ben Plessala (Will Byers), and Jolie Hoang-Rappaport (Max Mayfield), and Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips in undisclosed roles.
It premieres on Netflix on April 23.
