In December 2026, Avengers: Doomsday will officially be released as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fifth Avengers movie. After years of development, including a major pivot away from Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors)–which saw The Kang Dynasty tag replaced with Doomsday and Majors with Robert Downey Jr.–and a string of more recent teaser footage, Phase Six will expand with this major crossover event.

Confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, Doomsday will reunite many of the MCU’s heroes as they go to war against a new threat: Victor Von Doom, AKA Doctor Doom, played by MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr. The actor, known for his long tenure as Tony Stark/Iron Man since 2008, was a surprise announcement, and while many may think the MCU’s Doom is a Tony Stark Variant, that is yet to be confirmed.

With a cast of characters spanning Disney’s Marvel canon and the later acquired 20th Century Studios franchises (like the X-Men), Doomsday is positioned to be an epic not unlike the Russo Brothers’ Infinity Saga two-parter, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

In fact, Anthony and Joe Russo have returned to helm Avengers: Doomsday and its sequel–or could that be sequels?Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for December 2027. Little is known about the plot of Doomsday, even with the four teaser trailers that have surfaced thus far, but the general consensus is that the movie will follow Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom as he hunts down Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America.

The theory goes that the time-travelling antics of Steve Rogers in the latter moments of Avengers: Endgame, when he reunited with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), triggered a Multiversal incursion that destroyed Doom’s home and family. It is said to be the catalyst for his battle against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the future Avengers installment.

And it will be quite a battle if the cast list is anything to go by. Following a 2025 viral livestream, the Doomsday cast is notable.

From legacy actors like Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier) to more recent MCU additions like Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic) and Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Doomsday is set to be–what some reports are calling–the biggest thing Marvel Studios has ever done.

There have only been a few hints as to what type of Doctor Doom the MCU will have, and a new video has only added more layers to this fan-favorite character. Posted on the official Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel, the latest webisode of Marvel Super Heroes: What The–?! sees Doctor Doom welcome viewers to Latveria.

Enjoy as Doctor Doom provides a guided tour of the festivities and history of his kingdom of Doomstadt, Latveria… SO COMMANDS DOOM!

While this may have no connection to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, it is curious that Marvel has decided to focus on Doom and Latveria ahead of the movie’s release, following Doom’s official MCU debut in the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025).

Marvel Super Heroes: What The—?! is a comedic animated shorts series that playfully parodies iconic moments and characters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Presented in a stop-motion style using action figures, the show reimagines familiar heroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor in absurd, fast-paced scenarios that lean fully into slapstick humor and visual gags.

In this recent episode, Doom, acting as both ruler and travel agent, enthusiastically walks viewers through the supposed perks of booking a getaway to Doomstadt, confidently selling his iron-fisted regime as a rare “superhero-free” safe haven. His sales pitch leans hard on security, spotlighting his ever-watchful Doombots as proof that guests are constantly protected—whether they want to be or not.

The video doesn’t stop at propaganda; it also teases Latveria’s questionable attractions, including scenic Lake Doom and a full-blown amusement park dubbed Doomland, alongside nightlife staples like a comedy club and the ominously named Doomsday Festival.

Things take a darker turn when Namor and the Talokan warriors appear mid-montage, with Doom casually offering up unsuspecting tourists as prisoners to the underwater kingdom, treating the invasion like just another scheduled activity.

To close out the pitch, Doom unveils his most sinister selling point yet: time-loop vacations that ensure visitors never actually leave. Framed as a luxury perk, the offer lands squarely in classic Doom fashion—equal parts hilarious, horrifying, and perfectly in character for Marvel’s most self-assured supervillain.

It might mean nothing, it might mean everything. Either way, Doom’s arrival here has continued to stoke the theory fires, keeping fans engaged and laser-focused on what Marvel may be telling them about this iconic foe.
