Batman has always existed at the center of one of the richest character ecosystems in pop culture. Gotham City is defined as much by its heroes and allies as it is by its Rogues Gallery, a revolving door of villains that range from grounded crime bosses to outlandish foes.
That balance has shaped decades of films, comics, and games, and it’s now forming the backbone of an ambitious new interactive reboot.
TT Games and Warner Bros. Games are developing a third-person, action-adventure, open-world Batman game titled “Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight”, set for release in 2026. It pulls from across the Dark Knight’s cinematic history, blending multiple eras and interpretations into a single Gotham. Watch the behind-the-scenes trailer below:
In the video, DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn, who appears alongside key creatives, explains how the upcoming game calls upon many iterations of Batman that span several decades. “One of the many great things about ‘LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ is that it manifests all these different elements of Batman that we’ve loved over the years,” before adding that the “game is an absolute celebration of everything Batman.”
Now, here is every confirmed character who will appear in “Legacy of the Dark Knight”.
Bruce Wayne/Batman

Naturally, Bruce Wayne/Batman anchors the story as Gotham’s protector. This version draws from multiple cinematic influences and beyond (except that he’s, you know, Lego). He’s voiced by Shai Matheson, one of only two actors currently confirmed for the game.
Alfred Pennyworth
Alfred Pennyworth serves as Bruce Wayne’s loyal guardian and closest ally, providing guidance, support, and operational insight (and probably table service) in the Batcave.
Jim Gordon
Gotham’s police commissioner Jim Gordon is Batman’s key contact within law enforcement, continuing their uneasy but essential partnership. In “Legacy of the Dark Knight”, Gordon is modeled off Jeffrey Wright’s iteration from The Batman (2022) starring Robert Pattinson. We just hope Gary Oldman from The Dark Knight films doesn’t get jealous.
Barbara Gordon/Batgirl

Barbara Gordon/Batgirl joins the extensive roster as one of Gotham City’s alternative vigilantes. Currently, like many other characters in the game, she doesn’t appear to be based off any particular iteration, although she’s unlikely to draw inspiration from Leslie Grace’s version in the famously canceled Batgirl movie. It’s nothing personal, Leslie.
Nightwing
Nightwing represents Batman’s extended family (AKA the “Bat Family”, or “Bat-fam” for the younger generation), bringing agility and experience shaped by his time as Robin.
Robin
Speaking of Robin, the iconic sidekick also appears as Batman’s protégé, reinforcing the mentor-student dynamic central to the character’s mythology. Two Robins? Come on, this is the DC Multiverse we’re talking about.
Selina Kyle/Catwoman

This incarnation of Selina Kyle/Catwoman is directly inspired by Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal in Batman Returns (1992), bringing her distinctive style and moral ambiguity into the game. You’ll definitely hear her roar.

Talia al Ghul
Talia’s presence ties the game to the League of Assassins, although it’s unclear what role she has in the game. Either way, fans will probably do a better job playing this character than Marion Cotillard did in The Dark Knight Rises (2012).
The Joker
The Joker is inspired directly by Heath Ledger’s iconic portrayal in The Dark Knight (2008). However, as this is a Lego game, he’ll be a lot funnier. Because, you know, why so serious?
Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin

Danny DeVito’s grotesque take on Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin from Batman Returns inspires the version in the upcoming Lego Batman game, a character who emphasizes Gotham’s corruption and decay (a bit like those hideous teeth of his).
Poison Ivy
Poison Ivy is an eco-terrorist who can control plants. If this one’s anything like Uma Thurman in Batman & Robin (1997), expect plenty of seduction and cheesy one-liners.
Ra’s al Ghul
Ra’s al Ghul is Talia’s father. The trailer shows scenes where Bruce Wayne is trained by the enigmatic character in the League of Shadows, a direct homage to Batman Begins (2005).
Bane

This version of Bane draws directly from Tom Hardy’s musclebound menace in The Dark Knight Rises. In the game, he’s voiced by Matt Berry of The IT Crowd fame (we doubt he hit the gym to prepare for the role).
Harvey Dent/Two-Face
Inspired by Tommy Lee Jones’ iteration in Batman Forever (1995), the game’s Harvey Dent/Two-Face embodies Gotham’s fractured justice system. But why Tommy Lee Jones and not Aaron Eckhart from The Dark Knight? Well, maybe Warner Bros. tossed a coin.
Dr. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dr. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze from Batman & Robin also makes an appearance in the game, bringing exaggerated theatrics and cold-based weaponry. And lots and lots of super-cool puns, of course (pun intended).
Harley Quinn
It’s hardly surprising that Harley Quinn is also in the game. After all, there are always two Jokers in a deck.
Lesser known characters also appearing in “Legacy of the Dark Knight” are The Condiment King, Firefly, and Bat-Mite. Watch the official “Heroes & Villains” trailer for the game below:
“Are you ready to build the legacy of the Dark Knight and protect Gotham City™? Prepare your Batarangs and get ready to suit up in 2026,” the official description on Lego.com reads.
“Become the Dark Knight in an open-world LEGO action adventure from TT Games, the award-winning studio behind LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga™. Battle Gotham City’s most notorious Super-Villains and relive the journey of Batman™ from origin to legend – packed with iconic moments and signature LEGO humor.”
“Legacy of the Dark Knight” will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on May 29, 2026.
