Starting in 2026, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will reduce the capacity of many of its campsites by two guests, making a Walt Disney World Resort vacation more expensive for countless large families, who will now need to book two separate spots. Let’s take a look at everything we know about the change.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Capacity Update

Walt Disney World Resort has announced that the campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will no longer accommodate parties of nine or ten beginning in January 2026. Next year, the maximum number of guests on a booking at the Central Florida campground will be eight.

The change applies to the following campsite types at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort: Premium Campsites, Premium Meadow Campsites, Full Hook-Up Campsites, Tent or Pop-Up Campsites, and Preferred Campsites. This covers basically every type of campground at the Walt Disney World Resort hotel.

The cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are not affected by the capacity change. The maximum number of guests for this room type is six, and this limit will remain the same as we enter 2026.

Walt Disney World Resort has not said why it is lowering the campsite capacity limit.

Even with the change, a tent/pop-up, or hook-up campsite remains one of the most affordable accommodation options at the Central Florida Disney destination, especially for large parties. Even some of the largest Disney Resort hotel rooms and suites have a capacity limit of six. Some Villas and bungalows sleep up to nine or twelve, but they are hard to come by–and can cost thousands per night.

Does This Affect December 2025 Bookings?

No. The updated campsite capacity limit does not impact bookings of nine or ten guests for campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort in December 2025. Walt Disney World Resort is honoring all previous reservations, and the capacity limit doesn’t take effect until January 2026.
