The Batman franchise has undergone numerous interpretations over the decades, from the quasi-gothic style of Tim Burton’s films to Christopher Nolan’s grounded realism in The Dark Knight trilogy and Matt Reeves’ noir-inspired thriller in 2022’s The Batman.
As DC Studios revamps its entire universe under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the question of who will don the cape and cowl in the next live-action reboot The Brave and the Bold is currently one of the most closely watched castings in entertainment.

But while the search for the new Bruce Wayne/Batman on the big screen continues, Warner Bros. and DC have already revealed the actor playing Batman in another medium: the highly anticipated upcoming video game “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.”
Shai Matheson, who previously lent his vocal talents to other major gaming titles such as “Until Dawn” and “Star Wars: Outlaws,” has picked up the keys to the Batmobile and the Batcave in the new game.

The game draws upon the entire multimedia history of Batman, and some of its characters are even inspired by portrayals from the films, including Michelle Pfeiffer’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman from Batman Returns (1992), Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight (2008), Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon from The Batman (2022), and Tom Hardy’s Bane from The Dark Knight Rises (2012).
The trailer alone showcases how the game’s Gotham is one big melting pot of several different iterations of Batman and his playground, making the world Matheson’s LEGO Batman inhabits a new DC Universe in its own right.
In a behind-the-scenes featurette and gameplay overview released earlier this year, James Gunn, who appears alongside key creatives, said, “One of the many great things about ‘LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ is that it manifests all these different elements of Batman that we’ve loved over the years. People can experience this character maybe as fully as they ever have.”
He added that the “game is an absolute celebration of everything Batman.”
The game’s large roster of iconic characters also includes Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, Talia al Ghul, The Joker, Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Poison Ivy, and Ra’s al Ghul. Watch the full overview video for the game below:
Shai Matheson isn’t the only actor suiting up as the Caped Crusader in other media. Though an actor has yet to be announced, the first installment in a new series of animated films based on the Batman: Knightfall comic books will hit theaters in 2026.
“Legacy of the Dark Knight” will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S next year.
