October 31 was more than just Halloween; it was a special day at the Walt Disney World Resort. It was Zootopia Day for those who were able to celebrate.

Disney opened its newest attraction at Animal Kingdom for previews yesterday, and while the reviews of Zootopia: Better Zoogether were mixed, there was one item from the updated attraction that all guests hated.

A little over a week ago, we reported that a new mystery structure was being built around the exit to the new attraction. At the time, it was unclear precisely what Disney was building. However, now there’s some clarity regarding the structures, but an even bigger mystery remains as to what’s happening at the Tree of Life.

The new wooden structures are now holding up safety netting to protect guests, and much to guests’ dismay, block some of the best views of the Tree of Life. One guest wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “They ruined the view of the tree from the waterfall.”

While that somewhat solves the mystery of the new structures, it opens up a whole new set of questions. From the use of safety nets, we can surmise that Disney is about to begin some work on the Tree of Life and wants to keep guests safe. However, there is no announced project on the Tree of Life.

Obviously, given the conditions in Central Florida, the Tree of Life needs some periodic TLC, but just how long or extensive that work will be remains a mystery. The use of safety netting implies that this project is more than just a paint job and could require some significant work and updates.

The next issue is just how long these structures and safety nets will remain, blocking guests’ views of the Tree of Life. That too is a mystery. Presumably, they will stay as long as Disney is working on the tree, but no one knows how long that will be.

So, while Zootopia brings its new attraction to the base of the Tree of Life, there are so many mysteries surrounding the latest work that Disney is completing on the Animal Kingdom icon.
