Disney Has Redone Spaceship Earth Attraction Location During Closure

The classic Walt Disney World Resort attraction is now closed.

While EPCOT may be enduring the least of the major changes at Central Florida’s leading theme park destination, Disney is still tackling smaller projects at the four-decade-old park. Known for meshing entertainment with innovation, EPCOT recently gained a new version of Test Track, and its iconic Spaceship Earth attraction is currently closed and undergoing a revamp.

Spaceship Earth Goes Dark

Spaceship Earth is the iconic geodesic sphere that serves as the centerpiece and symbol of EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Standing 180 feet tall and composed of over 11,000 triangular panels, it houses a slow-moving dark ride that takes guests on a time-traveling journey through the history of human communication, from prehistoric cave paintings to the digital age.

The attraction first opened with EPCOT Center in 1982, with narration originally by Lawrence Dobkin. Later, it was updated with voices from Walter Cronkite (1986), Jeremy Irons (1994), and Dame Judi Dench (2007). Each version has featured new scenes, updated technology, and enhanced visuals to reflect evolving storytelling and innovations.

Inside, guests ascend through the sphere, passing through detailed Audio-Animatronic scenes depicting milestones like the invention of the alphabet, Gutenberg’s printing press, and the rise of computers, before returning to Earth with an interactive descent experience. Located in World Celebration, Spaceship Earth remains one of EPCOT’s most recognizable and beloved attractions. It embodies the park’s original mission to celebrate human achievement and innovation.

Spaceship Earth Updated

The entrance of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT is looking fresher than ever, thanks to a brand-new coat of paint ahead of the attraction’s upcoming reopening later this month.

While the structure’s familiar layout remains untouched, guests visiting the park will immediately notice the refreshed blue framing walls, which now sport a noticeably brighter and cleaner tone, as shown by WDWNT‘s report. The once more bluish sections have shifted to lighter gray and white hues, giving the entrance a modern, updated look that complements EPCOT’s sleek World Celebration aesthetic.

This repaint is part of a larger refurbishment effort that began in late August, when Spaceship Earth temporarily closed for maintenance and interior updates. The last day guests were able to ride was August 24, 2025, with the closure taking effect a day later on August 25. Several of the outer panels have also already been replaced.

With a reopening scheduled for October 25, fans are eager to see how this new look sets the stage for the next chapter of Spaceship Earth’s legacy.
