We are just over two months away from heading back to the city of Zootopia and spending time with our favorite rabbit cop Judy Hopps and scam-artist-turned-good-guy Nick Wilde. Zootopia was released in 2016 and was a box office sensation, grossing more than $1 billion worldwide, and talks of a sequel were almost immediately confirmed.

Zootopia starred Ginnifer Goodwin as the voice of Judy Hopps, a young rabbit who leaves her home of Bunnyburrow to move to Zootopia, a diverse city where she wants to be a police officer. While on patrol, Judy is hustled by sly fox Nick Wilde, and also abandons her post to arrest a small-time criminal. While being chastised by Chief Bogo, Judy learns that multiple “predator” animals who live in the city have gone missing, and their families are worried about them.

Judy blackmails Nick to help her find these missing predators, and they discover something is causing them to go “savage.” Together, Nick and Judy must find out who is targeting these predators, what is making them “savage,” and why this animal wants to get rid of certain residents of the city.

Although Disney first began discussing a Zootopia sequel in 2016, Disney CEO Bob Iger did not confirm that a second film was in development until 2023. Then, in February 2024, Mr. Iger announced that the film would be called Zootopia 2 and would come out on November 26, 2025, the day before Thanksgiving.

Since then, Disney has slowly been releasing details about the new film. We don’t know too much about the new film, but we do know that it will center around a snake named Gary De’Snake (voiced by Ke Huy Quan), who comes into the city. Snakes do not live in Zootopia, and the residents are immediately on edge.

No, with about 10 weeks until the film’s release, Disney has dropped some new information that we are excited to share with you!

Walt Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush recently shared that the script has officially been locked. You might be thinking that’s strange, considering how close we are to the film’s premiere, but throughout the pre-production, production, and even post-production stages, small changes are constantly being made to the script for a variety of reasons.

After the final tiny adjustments and edits, there comes a time in the last two months of our films, when we consider the script officially locked. We are there, and I am so proud of the hundreds of people @disneyanimation who worked so hard to get us here. #zootopia2 #pencilsdown

Disney has also announced some major casting news and introduced a brand-new family that will call Zootopia home.

According to a report from TheWrap, Disney has cast Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Macaulay Culkin, and Brenda Song to play the Lynxley’s. The Lynxley’s build the various weather domes around Zootopia that allow so many different types of residents to live in the city.

According to the synopsis, Samberg is Pawbert Lynxley, the easy-going runt of the powerful Lynxley family; Strathairn is Milton Lynxley, a distinguished business-mammal and the patriarch of one of Zootopia’s oldest and most prestigious families; Culkin is Cattrick Lynxley, the ambitious eldest son of the Lynxley family; and Song is Kitty Lynxley, the sharp-tongued daughter of the Lynxley family.
