The Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed its Volcano Bay water park will be closed today, December 10, as a wave of cold weather continues to move through the state of Florida. This closure follows an extended closure of Volcano Bay last week, which saw the water park remain empty for at least six days.
The Universal Orlando Resort is home to two main theme parks: Universal’s Islands of Aventure and Universal Studios Florida. However, Volcano Bay joined the resort in 2017, offering guests an entirely new way to enjoy Universal Studios.
Equipped with exhilarating water slides and an impeccable aesthetic, Volcano Bay is a worthy detour during a weekend, week, or month-long stay (we don’t judge) at the Universal Orlando Resort. However, as is the case with all aquatic activities, guests must pay attention to Volcano Bay’s operating schedule, as the water park often remains closed for a large chunk of the winter season.

The Universal Orlando Resort confirmed that Volcano Bay will remain closed today, December 10, in a new post on the theme park’s official Twitter account. It’s unknown if Volcano Bay will reopen tomorrow or remain closed.
In addition, Universal also shared the rest of the resort’s operating schedule. Universal Orlando Resort hours are as follows:
- Universal Studios Florida: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Universal Islands of Adventure: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Even if Universal’s Volcano Bay water park is open, certain rides and/or attractions may not be, meaning it’s crucial for guests to stay informed during their trip.
“Embrace your inner Waturi and brave a visit to Krakatau,” advertises Universal, challenging guests to take on the terrifyingly fun 200-foot volcano” “Thrill-seekers, brace yourself for gravity-defying plunges and the fastest water slide you’ve ever seen.”
Of course, Volcano Bay will soon no longer be the newest part of Universal Studios in Florida, with the resort entering the home stretch on its Epic Universe expansion. This massive new theme park will serve as Universal Orlando’s third gate, featuring dozens of new rides, attractions, and experiences for guests to enjoy.
Epic Universe will be anchored by several globally recognized franchises and properties, such as How to Train Your Dragon, Harry Potter, and Super Mario.
Epic Universe officially opens on May 22, 2025.
