Abigail Disney To Stop All Funding Until U.S. President Joe Biden Resigns Out of Office
According to multiple news outlets, including CNBC, MSNBC News, The Hill, and Deadline, Abigail Disney is seeking to put President Joe Biden out of office with the official halt of all funding until further notice. President Joe Biden is facing an internal challenge from some of the Democratic Party’s affluent donors, including an heiress to the family fortune, demanding he withdraw from the presidential race following his recent debate performance.
Abigail Disney, granddaughter of Roy O. Disney, co-founder of The Walt Disney Co., announced on Thursday that she will withhold donations to the Democratic Party until Biden steps down. The president has stated he has no intention of withdrawing from the race despite growing calls for him to do so. “I intend to stop any contributions to the party unless and until they replace Biden at the top of the ticket.
This is realism, not disrespect. Biden is a good man and has served his country admirably, but the stakes are far too high,” Abigail Disney said in a statement to CNBC. “If Biden does not step down, the Democrats will lose. Of that, I am certain. The consequences of the loss will be genuinely dire.” The Democratic Party has been in a state of panic since Biden’s lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump last week.

Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, has also called on Biden to drop out, suggesting the debate performance showed voters that the president cannot take on Trump and overcome his lag in the polls. A New York Times/Siena College poll after the debate showed Biden trailing Trump by six percentage points among likely voters. Representatives for the Biden campaign did not return requests for comment.
Abigail Disney has been a longstanding supporter of the Democratic Party. In April, according to a Federal Election Commission filing, she donated $50,000 to the Jane Fonda Climate PAC. The PAC has contributed $35,000 to Democrats running for congressional seats, according to data from OpenSecrets.
“The most magical place on earth” donated $150,000 in 2014 to Planned Parenthood Votes, a PAC affiliated with the healthcare nonprofit. This election cycle, the PAC has spent more than $400,000 supporting Democrats, including $26,000 for Biden. Disney suggested Vice President Kamala Harris as a viable alternative to Biden, arguing she could defeat Trump.

“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” Disney said.
The dissent among Democratic donors, including Abigail Disney, regarding President Joe Biden’s candidacy does not directly affect the theme parks or the company itself.
Abigail Disney is a private individual whose opinions and political actions are separate from the operations of the company founded by her grandfather. However, here are some broader implications and potential impacts. Abigail Disney’s public stance could influence public perception of The House of Mouse, even though she is not directly involved in its operations.
Some consumers may react to Abigail Disney’s stance, potentially influencing their support for Disney parks and products. The company may need to manage consumer sentiment through strategic communication. While Abigail Disney’s political activities are her own, The House of Mouse must carefully navigate the potential ripple effects on its brand image, stakeholder relations, and consumer perception.
What are your thoughts? Should Disney continue to support political parties, or should they avoid all things political?
