The latest trailer for Disney’s highly-anticipated upcoming sequel TRON: Legacy excited audiences at the San Diego Comic Con last week. Not only is it filled with plenty of geek goodness, but we’ve found out that the film is also packed with many cinematic firsts.
Disney’s press release tells us that TRON: Legacy is:
the first 3D movie to integrate a fully digital head and body based upon an existing actor, creating the younger version of Jeff Bridges’ character
the first movie to make extensive use self-illuminated costumes
the first movie to create molded costumes using digital sculpture exclusively, creating molds directly from computer files using CNC (Computer Numerical Cutting) technology
the first 3D movie shot with 35mm lenses and full-35mm chip cameras
and the first movie to record uncompressed HD Video to hard drive.
So not only does TRON: Legacy feature plenty of wild technology as part of its plot, but filmmakers also used cutting-edge gadgets in its creation.
TRON: Legacy hits theaters on December 17, 2010 and (in my opinion) is likely to be the first movie since Avatar that deserves to be seen in 3D.
