Hands-on with “The Lone Ranger’ play set just announced for “Disney Infinity” video game at launch in August

Disney Infinity action figures featuring The Lone Ranger in his iconic cowboy attire and Tonto with traditional face paint and headband, capturing the adventurous spirit of the classic Disney duo.

Today Disney Interactive announced the newest play set for Disney Infinity, The Lone Ranger, available when the video game launches on August 18, 2013.

Within The Lone Ranger play set, players can take on the role of the Lone Ranger or Tonto as they set out to bring Butch Cavendish and his gang of outlaws to justice.

Disney Infinity figures, including The Lone Ranger, are showcased on a glowing game base, with the iconic Disney Infinity logo and USB cable displayed in the background—evoking the magic of Disney’s interactive experiences.

Gameplay highlights include:

  • Ricochet Combat: The outlaws in the play set are clever and will seek to hide behind cover or ambush the player whenever they can. A unique ricochet mechanic allows both Lone Ranger and Tonto to hit the bad guys indirectly and around corners by lining up shots that bounce off of pots, pans, bells, posts, or other metal objects.

    • The Lone Ranger dashes across a desert landscape on his iconic white horse, pursued by three masked bandits near a vibrant red train, bringing classic Western adventure to life in a thrilling video game attraction setting.

    The Lone Ranger, iconic in his white hat, stands ready to defend a blazing, deserted western town as two enemies charge—capturing the immersive excitement and dynamic storytelling of Disney Infinity attractions.

  • Mounts: Players will find traversing the Wild West and the areas surrounding the town of Colby to be much quicker on the Lone Ranger and Tonto’s iconic steeds of Silver and Scout or any one of the other many horses that can be found throughout the play set.

    • The Lone Ranger, masked and iconic, rides his white horse past a bustling bank in a vivid, animated Western town at sunset—capturing the immersive excitement and playful energy of Disney Infinity’s Wild West adventure for fans of Disney parks and entertainment.

    The Lone Ranger and Tonto ride high atop an elephant as a colorful toy train chugs along through a dramatic canyon, capturing the spirit of Disney Infinity’s Wild West adventure in an imaginative, theme park-inspired setting.

  • Train Defense and Customization: He who controls the railroad, controls the West. In the Lone Ranger play set, players can build and customize their own train, complete from the trim on the wheels, to the painting on the cars. A key part of the gameplay revolves around building up the train and getting the right resources to the right locations.

    • Under the glow of a full moon, guests can witness two masked riders on horseback racing alongside a speeding train in a lively, Lone Ranger-inspired nighttime adventure, brought to life with Disney Infinity’s signature cartoon game magic.

    The Lone Ranger, masked and riding his iconic white horse, races after a bandit along railroad tracks through the desert, capturing the excitement of classic Western adventures just like in Disney Infinity.

  • Toy Box: In addition to these game mechanics, the Lone Ranger play set also allows players to bring in all the buildings, mounts, weapons and other surprises into the Toy Box so that players can include their own wild west gameplay into their imaginative scenarios.

    • Lone Ranger-inspired animated cowboys dash through a Disney Infinity-style toy town, pursuing a fiery orange-haired villain clutching a glowing pink orb, creating an action-packed scene reminiscent of an interactive theme park adventure.

    Beloved toy characters journey along a whimsical road atop playful animal companions, set against a vivid landscape of colorful cliffs, bringing the magic and excitement of a Disney Infinity-style adventure to life, just like an immersive attraction in a world-class theme park.

    The Lone Ranger play set adds the second Johnny Depp character to Disney Infinity, enabling players to bring Tonto and Captain Jack Sparrow into the same Toy Box world to have fun together.

    As with the rest of the Disney Infinity line, it will be interesting to see how the new figures compare to Skylanders Swap Force when they are released.
