“Wizard of Oz”-themed train ride experience arrives in Central Florida this summer

The Wizard of Oz Train Ride whisks guests down the iconic yellow brick road in Central Florida, inviting theme park fans to “Take a ride over the rainbow” on this enchanting adventure.

The classic masterpiece “The Wizard of Oz” was released just under 80 years ago and still has a place in the hearts of many movie fans. L. Frank Baum’s story about Dorothy, Toto, the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Man is so beloved that “Oz”-themed experiences are popular even today.

One such event is a themed two hour train ride to Emerald City. Along with Dorothy and company, guests encounter the Wicked Witch, Good Fairy and more as the story unfolds in front of passengers. Now, that enchanting event is available for a limited time in the theme park capital of America: Central Florida.

Kids dressed as Dorothy and Scarecrow join the Tin Man and Lion aboard the Wizard of Oz Train Ride in Central Florida, with fellow guests soaking up the enchanting theme park atmosphere along this magical journey.

The Royal Palm Railway Experience (Orlando & Northwestern Railway LLC) is offering the ultimate summer event during the month of June. The Wizard of Oz Train Ride is a two-hour adventure of oz-standing caliber.

The Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz takes center stage, performing in front of tall corn stalks as guests watch, capturing the enchanting atmosphere of the beloved story and infusing the scene with Central Florida’s signature entertainment flair.

“Licensed by the same team that brought you THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride, this magical journey will retell the story of the beloved film on board a real train at select heritage railroads across the United States.

Guests will board the train with DOROTHY™ and her special friends as they travel down the Yellow Brick Road. Help them defeat the WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST™ before arriving at the Emerald City and experiencing the thrill of meeting THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ™ himself during a live stage show!

The trip will begin in Tavares, Florida, with the boarding location Wooten Park.  The show begins in Munchkinland where you will meet the beloved characters in this classic story. No need to wait for a twister to take you away! Excursions depart daily (except Mondays) from Tavares, located just northwest of Orlando, from June 8 – 24.

A bustling street in Central Florida filled with parked cars, lively sidewalk cafes, and people strolling between shops evokes the excitement and energy found just outside places like Disney Springs or Universal CityWalk, set beneath a bright blue sky dotted with clouds.

Clinchfield 800, decked out in vibrant yellow and gray, chugs along its tracks past lush trees and a quaint building, capturing the nostalgic magic of a Wizard of Oz-style train adventure at Central Florida’s theme parks.

Three levels of seating are offered. Standard Coach Class is available weekdays ($19.97-34.97) and weekends ($29.97-39.97); pricing depends on the time of day and age of the guest. Custom Coach Class is priced from $29.97 – $44.97 for a weekday ticket, or $39.97 – $49.97 for a weekend adventure (again prices depend on time and age). Theater Class is offered only for adults at a cost of $49.97- $59.97. Special “Family Packs” of four admissions are also available at a discount (starting at $99.98).

Would-be munchkins and their adult chaperones should arrive at least half an hour prior to departure (check-in available a full 90 minutes ahead of show time). Restrooms are available on board and at the Emerald City destination. Nearby parking is available (200 N Sinclair Ave, Tavares, FL 32778) and the train departs from Wooten Park in Tavares (305 East Ruby Street).

Of note, The Wizard of Oz Train Ride is not the only adventure offered by the Royal Palm Railway Experience. A magical fantasy takes place for Christmas time (November 9th – December 30th) when the Polar Express comes to town.  Additionally, a Cinco de Mayo Train Ride takes place May 5th at 4 and 6 pm.
