Mad Hatter Bistro’s “Wonderland of New American cuisine” is one establishment where you don’t want to be late, especially for Afternoon Tea.
This brilliant bistro and bar, located in Birmingham, Michigan, not only offers an afternoon tea (reservations required), but features fine food and delicious drinks for breakfast, lunch, Sunday Brunch, Dinner and more.
Established in 2014, Mad Hatter Bistro is an “Alice in Wonderland” fan’s ultimate trip through the looking glass. Paired with perfectly prepared, palate-pleasing provisions, Mad Hatter’s Alice-inspired ambiance makes the two-level location on Old Woodward Avenue a perfect escape.
“Mad Hatter’s interior design reflects the story of Alice in Wonderland and the hip sensibilities of the surrounding area while also paying tribute to Birmingham’s storied past. The dual-level restaurant offers the choice of dining down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland or dining in a sophisticated, eclectic dining room while watching the Mad Scientists in the art of cooking as it occurs in their open kitchen. Inventive offerings assure fine food is found for all four mouth-watering mealtimes. Lunch (served M-F from 11 am to 3 pm) features sandwiches, soups, and salads including a Mad Hatter Burger (Farm Field Table beef, Beecher’s Flagship cheddar, Hermann’s bun, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and hand cut fries).
During dinner (daily at 5pm) devouring Mad Queen’s Chicken (Gerber Farms Amish chicken breast, whipped potatoes, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, broccollini, and lemon caper sauce) makes for a magical meal.
Saturday and Sunday (10 am to 3pm) brunch at the Bistro brings taste bud temptations like caramel apple French toast and a build your own Benedict.
Hats off to “Mad Hour” (M-F 3 pm to 5pm)! This happy hour is hopping with signature specialties like a White Rabbit (Vodka, Elderflower Liqueur, lemon, and mint) or a Red Queen’s Cosmo (Vodka, Elderflower Liqueur, Orange Liqueur, lime, and cranberry). Make it a very happy un-birthday by sampling any of the small plate snacks (Shepard’s Pie, Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Mac-n-cheese and more).
Delightful dining aside, the highlight of Mad Hatter Bistro is its lower-level tea room. Eighteen different teas take their spot on the menu for this bottomless tea time treat. Speaking of treats, a three-tiered tray of temptations touts finger sandwiches, scones, and seasonal pastries. This English-inspired experience is by reservation only and rates run from $24 per person to $28 for gluten-free option (add-ons like soup and grilled cheese are also available).
Other types of tea time include a Children’s Tiny Tea (ages 12 and under, $20 per person), Alice’s Scones and Tea ($10 each attendee) and a Celebrate the Moment option that adds on Mimosa or Bloody Mary adult beverages.
Mad Hatter Bistro is open Monday through Wednesday from 11am to 10 pm, Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 1am, Saturday 10 am to 1am and Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm. The Diners’ Choice award-winning Wonderland-inspired experience is located at 185 N. Old Woodward in Birmingham, Michigan.
