Walt Disney World is preparing to bring back a popular perk that many guests have been missing, and the return could make a big difference for families planning their next vacation.
With the holiday season approaching, Disney World visitors have plenty to think about, from crowded theme parks and seasonal entertainment to attraction closures and changing operating hours.
However, guests staying at certain Disney World hotels will soon have another reason to look forward to their next visit.

After several months without the offering, Disney has confirmed that a special nighttime experience will return to Magic Kingdom in January 2027.
The announcement is especially welcome news for visitors who prefer exploring the park after the daytime crowds have started heading home.
Still, not everyone will qualify for this returning benefit, and guests hoping to take advantage of it will need to understand Disney’s eligibility requirements.
Disney World Confirms Extended Evening Hours Return to Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom will bring back Extended Evening Hours on Wednesday, January 6, 2027.
The special offering will take place from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m., giving eligible Disney World hotel guests two additional hours to experience the park after its regular operating day.
For guests who enjoy Magic Kingdom at night, this is a welcome announcement.
Extended Evening Hours allow qualifying visitors to remain in the park after regular closing, when many other guests have already departed.
That means families may have additional opportunities to enjoy popular attractions without dealing with the same crowds they encounter throughout the afternoon.
Of course, shorter wait times aren’t guaranteed. Popular rides can still attract significant lines, even during special operating periods.
However, the opportunity to enjoy Magic Kingdom for two extra hours can make a noticeable difference, particularly for guests trying to experience as many attractions as possible.
The January return also marks the end of a lengthy absence for the offering at Disney World’s most visited theme park.
Why Disney World Removed the Popular Nighttime Benefit
Magic Kingdom last offered Extended Evening Hours on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Following that date, the nighttime perk disappeared from the park’s schedule as Disney prepared for its annual Halloween and Christmas celebrations.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party both require significant adjustments to Magic Kingdom’s evening operations.
These separately ticketed celebrations take place on select nights and allow party guests to enjoy exclusive entertainment, character experiences, and seasonal activities.

Because Magic Kingdom hosts these popular events throughout the fall and holiday seasons, Disney temporarily moved its Wednesday Extended Evening Hours offerings elsewhere.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom hosted the benefit instead, giving eligible hotel guests opportunities to enjoy additional park time during Magic Kingdom’s seasonal break.
Although the benefit remained available at other parks, its absence from Magic Kingdom was noticeable for visitors who particularly enjoy spending late evenings there.
Now, with the holiday party season ending, Disney is preparing to restore the experience.
For families planning January vacations, the timing could be particularly convenient.
More Than 20 Magic Kingdom Attractions Included
One of the biggest advantages of Extended Evening Hours is the opportunity to enjoy popular attractions during a period when regular day guests are no longer entering ride queues.
Disney has identified 23 attractions scheduled to operate during Magic Kingdom’s returning Extended Evening Hours.
The announced lineup includes:
- “it’s a small world”
- Astro Orbiter
- The Barnstormer
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
- Country Bear Musical Jamboree
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- Haunted Mansion
- Mad Tea Party
- The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- Mickey’s PhilharMagic
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Space Mountain
- Swiss Family Treehouse
- Tomorrowland Speedway
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid
- Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
The lineup gives guests a combination of major thrill rides, classic Disney attractions, and family-friendly experiences.
TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, and Peter Pan’s Flight could be especially appealing to guests hoping to make the most of their additional time.
Meanwhile, attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and “it’s a small world” offer opportunities to enjoy some of Magic Kingdom’s most recognizable experiences.
Guests should remember that attraction availability can change because of operational needs, maintenance, or unexpected technical difficulties.
Still, the scheduled lineup provides plenty of options for visitors who qualify for the benefit.
Not Every Disney World Hotel Guest Can Participate
Although Extended Evening Hours can be a valuable vacation perk, Disney does not make the experience available to everyone staying on property.
The benefit is primarily reserved for registered guests of Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, and a limited selection of additional participating hotels.
Eligible Disney Deluxe Resorts include Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.

Guests staying at participating Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts also qualify.
These accommodations include Bay Lake Tower, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney’s BoardWalk Villas, Disney’s Beach Club Villas, and several other Disney Vacation Club properties.
Disney also includes the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, although the benefit applies specifically to those cabins rather than every accommodation at Fort Wilderness.
A few hotels outside Disney’s traditional Deluxe Resort categories also participate.
These include the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel, Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, Walt Disney World Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green.
Guests staying at Disney Value Resorts or Disney Moderate Resorts generally do not qualify for Extended Evening Hours.
That distinction matters when comparing hotel prices and deciding whether a more expensive resort is worth the additional cost.
Is Staying at a Deluxe Resort Worth the Extra Hours?
For some Disney World visitors, Extended Evening Hours can be a major selling point when choosing accommodations.
Disney Deluxe Resorts typically cost more than the company’s Value and Moderate properties, but they also offer additional amenities and certain vacation benefits.
The opportunity to spend two extra hours inside Magic Kingdom could make those higher room rates easier to justify for guests who plan to take full advantage of the perk.
For example, a family hoping to experience several major attractions might find that the additional evening access reduces some of the pressure to fit everything into the regular operating day.

Instead of rushing between attractions throughout the afternoon, qualifying guests can save certain experiences for later in the evening.
However, Extended Evening Hours alone may not justify the additional hotel expense for every family.
Visitors traveling with young children, particularly those who usually go to bed early, might struggle to make use of a perk that lasts until 11 p.m.
Others may prefer spending that money on dining, souvenirs, or additional vacation experiences.
Ultimately, the value depends on how each family approaches its Disney World vacation.
What Guests Should Know Before January 6
Disney World guests planning to visit Magic Kingdom on January 6 should check their hotel eligibility before counting on the extra operating hours.
The benefit is not a separately purchased ticket that anyone can simply add to their vacation.
Instead, qualifying guests must have an eligible hotel stay and meet Disney’s applicable theme park admission requirements.
Visitors should also make sure their hotel reservation and admission information are properly connected to their Disney account.
Extended Evening Hours should not be confused with Early Theme Park Entry, another Disney World hotel benefit that operates under different eligibility rules.
While Early Theme Park Entry is available to a broader selection of participating hotel guests, Extended Evening Hours remain considerably more exclusive.
It’s also important to remember that the January 6 announcement does not automatically mean Magic Kingdom will offer Extended Evening Hours every night.
Guests should continue checking Disney World’s official operating calendar for additional dates and any schedule adjustments.
A Welcome Return for Magic Kingdom Guests
For Disney World fans who enjoy the atmosphere of Magic Kingdom after dark, the return of Extended Evening Hours is certainly good news.
After the park’s seasonal Halloween and Christmas celebrations temporarily pushed the offering elsewhere, eligible hotel guests will once again have an opportunity to experience some of Magic Kingdom’s most popular attractions late into the evening.

The January 6 return gives qualifying visitors two additional hours, a substantial lineup of scheduled attractions, and another reason to consider staying at one of Disney World’s participating hotels.
For families already planning an early January vacation, it could be an opportunity worth building their Magic Kingdom visit around.
And for those who have missed spending extra time inside the park after regular closing, the wait is finally coming to an end.
