But the restaurant has already told on itself, and the tell is hanging on the wall.
Here is the situation. Universal Orlando Resort announced not too long ago that Five Guys Burgers and Fries was coming to the upper level of Universal CityWalk, across from Bread Box Handcrafted Sandwiches, taking over the space that used to hold the Burger King Whopper Bar. The announcement confirmed the menu, confirmed indoor and outdoor seating, and then did what these announcements always do, which is describe the whole thing as “coming soon” and leave it there.
As of September 21, there was still no opening date and no posted operating hours.
Then on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, Attractions Magazine found staff training inside the restaurant, and found a sign advertising something very specific.
“Five Guys Halloween Horror Nights, Open Until 1 AM.”
That sign is the most useful piece of information in this entire story, and it has almost nothing to do with burgers.
Why the Sign Is a Timeline
Think about what that advertisement is actually for.
Halloween Horror Nights 2026 runs on select nights through November 1. That is the window where a “open until 1 a.m. during Halloween Horror Nights” sign has any meaning at all. On November 2 it is a piece of paper about an event that already ended.
Universal does not print and hang event specific signage for a restaurant that will not be open during the event. So the sign is not a promise about the distant future. It is a promise about a window that is already running and closes in roughly five weeks.
Pair that with staff training happening on the floor, which is generally one of the last steps before a soft opening, and the picture gets fairly clear. This is not a November project. This is imminent.
Universal has not confirmed any of that, and no date has been announced. But the signage and the training together point in the same direction.
The 1 a.m. Part Is the Real News
Set the opening date aside for a second, because the hours are the more interesting story for anyone actually visiting.
Most quick service at CityWalk shuts down well before 1 a.m. That has always been a gap in the Halloween Horror Nights experience, and anyone who has done the event knows exactly what it feels like. You come out of your last house somewhere around midnight, you have been walking for six hours, you have eaten one pretzel, and your options are thin.
A burger place open until 1 a.m. sits directly in that gap.
It also sits on the upper level of CityWalk, which puts it on the path out of the park rather than requiring a detour. For an event where people leave hungry, exhausted, and heading toward parking anyway, that placement does a lot of work.
Halloween Horror Nights is in its 35th anniversary season this year with 10 haunted houses, which is a lot of walking and a lot of hours on your feet. Late food matters more during HHN than during almost any other period at Universal.
What Is on the Menu
Standard Five Guys, which is the appeal.
Burgers, hot dogs, hand-cut fries, and milkshakes, with the customization the chain is known for.
The detail worth flagging is the breakfast sandwich. Universal specifically framed it as an option for guests heading into Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, which is a strategic choice more than a menu one. Early morning food at CityWalk is limited, and rope drop crowds funnel through that area every single morning with time to kill before the parks open.
A quick service breakfast sandwich on the walk in is a genuinely useful addition to that corridor.
Indoor and outdoor seating are both available.
Two Openings in One Month
Five Guys is not arriving alone.
Fat One’s Hot Dogs and Italian Ice opened at CityWalk on September 19, making Five Guys the second new quick service restaurant to land in the same month.
That pace is worth noticing. CityWalk has been steadily rebalancing toward recognizable third-party brands, and the Whopper Bar to Five Guys swap is a clean example of the pattern. The space was already built as a burger operation, which is part of why a changeover like this can move faster than a from scratch buildout.
Premier and Preferred Passholder discounts are available at both Five Guys and Fat One’s, which is a meaningful detail if you are visiting repeatedly during Halloween Horror Nights season.
What Has Not Been Confirmed
Universal has not announced an opening date.
No regular operating hours have been posted beyond the Halloween Horror Nights signage, so the 1 a.m. closing time should be understood as an event period arrangement rather than a permanent schedule.
Nothing has been said about whether the late hours continue after November 1.
The staff training observed on September 23 suggests a soft opening period, which typically means limited hours and limited menu availability before a full opening is announced. Those periods are usually unannounced, so the restaurant may simply be serving one day without warning.
What to Watch For
If you are heading to CityWalk in the next few weeks, the upper level across from Bread Box is the place to look.
A soft opening would most likely show up with no notice at all, and the first confirmation will probably come from guests who happen to walk past an open door.
For Halloween Horror Nights guests specifically, this is worth tracking. A burger and fries at 12:45 a.m. after your last house is a meaningfully better end to the night than whatever you were planning to do instead.
