Space Mountain Reimagining Begins Next Year
At D23 Expo 2026, Walt Disney Imagineering announced plans to revive the original Space Mountain theming at Disneyland Park (Paris): Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune. For the last ten years, the Discoveryland roller coaster has operated as the Star Wars-themed Hyperspace Mountain.
Hyperspace Mountain will close at the end of 2027 to allow Walt Disney Imagineers to “bring back the Moon” in Discoveryland. The overhaul will include extensive technical work and much-needed maintenance upgrades, as well as indoor sets and props, an enhanced queue, and new special effects, creating a modern version of the attraction’s beloved original storyline. European Disney Park guests will once again be able to watch the roller coaster trains from the queue and hear the iconic original score by Steve Bramson.
The exterior dome lighting installed on the attraction building in 2025 will remain in place when the reimagined Discoveryland roller coaster reopens.
Theming Disappears From Discoveryland
Even with Hyperspace Mountain’s closure more than a year away, Disneyland Paris Resort is already making changes to the Discoveryland attraction. On Monday, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @PixiedustDLP shared several photos revealing that Disney had removed a large themed element from the cannon structure on the outside of the Space Mountain building at Disneyland Park.

Disneyland Paris Resort has not said whether this element was removed ahead of Hyperspace Mountain’s closure in 2027 or for another unrelated reason. It’s unclear when Space Mountain will reopen after its major overhaul, but such an extensive project could take anywhere from several months to several years.
