There is some good news, though. At least for now, this does not appear to be a planned or extended closure. Disney’s calendar still indicates that Steakhouse 71 should be back in operation on September 7.

Disney restaurants frequently fill their reservation books, especially at popular locations around Magic Kingdom and the surrounding resorts. Seeing no reservations available isn’t necessarily unusual.
Having Disney cancel an existing reservation on the day of the meal is a different situation entirely.
For guests who built their September 6 plans around Steakhouse 71, that meant finding somewhere else to eat with very little warning.

It replaced The Wave… of American Flavors, which previously occupied the location inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
The “71” in Steakhouse 71 references 1971, the year Walt Disney World officially opened in Central Florida.
The restaurant also acts as something of an East Coast counterpart to Steakhouse 55, which previously operated at the Disneyland Hotel in California. Steakhouse 55 permanently closed, while Steakhouse 71 brought a new version of the steakhouse concept to Florida.
Unlike a steakhouse that focuses almost entirely on dinner, Steakhouse 71 operates across several meal periods.
Guests can visit in the morning for breakfast and return later in the day for lunch or dinner. Brunch is also part of its normal operation.
That broad schedule means an unexpected full-day closure can affect quite a few dining plans.
Rather than canceling one evening’s worth of reservations, Disney potentially has to deal with guests who planned meals throughout the entire day.
