Here’s what to know before your next visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth.
Replacements Continue Throughout Walt Disney World Resort
Over the last several months, Walt Disney World Resort has been replacing trash cans around its theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs with a modern, upgraded design. The new models feature hygienic foot pedals and interior trash compactors, reducing the need for custodial cast members to change bags.
However, what seems like a minor change hasn’t been without controversy. Outdoor versions of the trash cans are powered by solar panels mounted beneath a rounded cover, making it impossible to place objects safely on top. This caused a major problem at EPCOT, where many guests used flat-top trash cans as high-top tables during busy festival seasons.
Additionally, the trash cans proved more complicated for guests to use than Walt Disney World Resort had assumed. As the rollout continued, the Central Florida Disney vacation destination released a how-to video instructing visitors and cast members on how to dispose of waste and recycle during their theme park visits.
Despite the complications, Walt Disney World Resort has continued to install these updated designs around its theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs–most recently at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
New Trash Cans at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
On September 22, WDWNT reported that generic silver versions of the new trash cans had arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Unlike many of the updated waste receptacles, the latest installations are not themed to their areas. Walt Disney World Resort may add theming or swap them out in the future, but, for now, guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are stuck with generic silver waste receptacles.
The silver-and-black solar-powered trash cans were spotted outside the Mickey Shorts Theater along Echo Lake, near BaseLine Tap House on Grand Avenue, outside Oasis Canteen (also along Echo Lake), at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular attraction, on the walkway to Toy Story Land from Pixar Plaza, and outside The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure in the recently reimagined Animation Courtyard.
Walt Disney World Resort has already installed themed versions of the new trash cans in multiple locations around Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including near the Chinese Theatre and the Magic of Disney Animation attraction. It’s unclear why the latest arrivals aren’t decorated to match their respective locations.
