Universal Sends a Clear Message About E.T. Adventure
Universal recently shared a post on X that immediately caught the attention of longtime fans of the attraction.
“If E.T. Adventure has millions of fans, we’re one of them.

The post quickly spread throughout the theme park community, with many guests taking it as a strong sign that Universal has no desire to retire the attraction anytime soon.
Although the company stopped short of confirming any future projects or refurbishment plans, the message is one of the clearest public endorsements E.T. Adventure has received, and it’s apparent that the attraction is around for the long haul.
For an attraction that has constantly found itself at the center of closure rumors, that’s great news.
A Ride Unlike Anything Else at Universal
E.T. Adventure opened with Universal Studios Florida in 1990 and remains one of the park’s few original opening-day attractions. Inspired by Steven Spielberg’s beloved film, the ride sends guests on bicycles through a moonlit forest before traveling to E.T.’s colorful home planet.
Even after more than three decades, it continues to stand apart from nearly everything else at the resort. Instead of relying on massive screens or high-speed thrills, E.T. Adventure focuses on practical sets, animatronics, music, and atmosphere.
That nostalgic experience has helped build an intensely loyal fan base, many of whom consider it one of Universal Orlando’s most irreplaceable attractions.
The ride has also become something of a living piece of theme park history. As Universal continues transforming its parks with blockbuster franchises and newer technology, E.T. Adventure offers guests a chance to experience a different era of attraction design.
Rumors Have Never Gone Away
Questions about the ride’s future aren’t new.
For years, fans have circulated reports that Steven Spielberg negotiated protections for E.T. Adventure as part of his relationship with Universal. While those stories continue to surface online, Universal has never publicly confirmed the exact details of any agreement.
More recently, attention has shifted toward construction permits and internal project filings.
Rumors have suggested that E.T. Adventure could temporarily close in 2027 or 2028 for an extensive refurbishment. Adding fuel to those discussions is a notice of commencement tied to work inside the attraction that extends into late 2028.
Some fans believe that timeline points to a significant refurbishment or modernization rather than routine maintenance. Others have speculated about updated effects, refreshed scenes, or infrastructure improvements designed to preserve the attraction for years to come.
At this point, however, Universal has not confirmed any closure, refurbishment schedule, or scope of work. Everything surrounding a possible 2027 or 2028 project remains speculation.

While the long-term future of E.T. Adventure remains officially unannounced, Universal’s latest social media post sends a clear message about how the company views the attraction today.
Instead of distancing itself from one of its oldest rides, Universal publicly embraced it in a way that resonated with longtime fans. That doesn’t necessarily rule out future updates—in fact, many guests would welcome a careful refurbishment that preserves the ride while improving its reliability—but it does suggest the attraction remains an important part of the resort’s identity.
After 36 years, E.T. Adventure continues to occupy a unique place in Universal Orlando. Until the company says otherwise, fans can take comfort in knowing that the resort itself appears just as fond of the classic attraction as the guests who continue riding it generation after generation.
Other Work Happening Around Universal Studios Florida
While E.T. Adventure appears to have a bright future, Universal Studios Florida is in the middle of one of its biggest transformations in years.
The biggest change is already impossible to miss. Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt has been completely demolished, and construction crews have started installing track for the park’s new Fast & Furious-themed roller coaster. The project will dramatically reshape the New York section of the park and replace one of Universal’s most recognizable coasters.
Another major change is coming just around the corner. Universal has confirmed that Fast & Furious – Supercharged will permanently close on August 17, with August 16 serving as guests’ final opportunity to experience the attraction.
As for what comes next, Universal hasn’t announced a replacement. That hasn’t stopped fans from speculating, though. Rumors continue to circulate that the space could eventually become home to a nostalgic attraction inspired by franchises such as Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, or JAWS. At this point, however, Universal has not confirmed any of those possibilities, and they remain purely fan speculation.
In addition, the Horror Makeup Show is currently closed, undergoing a major overhaul.
With new attractions under construction, longtime rides closing, and beloved classics like E.T. Adventure continuing to receive public support from Universal, the park is balancing its future while still holding onto pieces of its past.
