Universal Studios Hollywood already has a packed lineup planned for Halloween Horror Nights 2026, but the creative team managed to squeeze in one more horror property before opening night.
Exactly what guests will encounter remains somewhat mysterious. Universal has shared a few clues, but some important questions remain unanswered.

Halloween Horror Nights Brings Horror to Life
Halloween Horror Nights transforms Universal’s theme parks with haunted houses, scare zones, live entertainment, and characters pulled from recognizable horror franchises and original Universal stories.
Guests can spend the night moving between elaborate haunted houses before stepping onto streets filled with scare actors.
But a horror property doesn’t necessarily need its own house to join the event.
Universal has found plenty of other ways to incorporate characters and franchises into Halloween Horror Nights. That flexibility appears particularly important with its latest addition.
Universal Adds Obsession at the Last Minute
Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed that Obsession (2026) will be featured at Halloween Horror Nights 2026.
Halloween Horror Nights creative director John Murdy revealed the news during Midsummer Scream, explaining that the decision came unusually late in the planning process.
According to Murdy, the team had to “rally the troops” to make it happen.
The timing makes the announcement particularly interesting. Halloween Horror Nights requires months of planning, construction, rehearsals, and coordination. Adding a property this late gives Universal much less time to bring the concept to life.
Obsession (2026) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 before receiving a wide release in May 2026.
However, Murdy stopped short of explaining exactly what Universal has planned.
Nikki Is Somewhere Inside the Park
Murdy did provide one major clue about what guests should expect.
“Nikki’s out there somewhere,” Murdy said. “You kind of have to get into a ‘Where’s Waldo?’ mentality.”
He also teased that Nikki might be searching for her “next obsession.”
That wording makes this sound very different from a traditional Halloween Horror Nights house.
Instead of entering one specific attraction to experience Obsession (2026), guests may need to keep their eyes open while exploring Universal Studios Hollywood.
Could Nikki Be a Roaming Scare Actor?
Based on Murdy’s comments, Nikki is set to appear as a roaming scare actor rather than as part of an entire scare zone or haunted house.
The “Where’s Waldo?” comparison certainly suggests Universal wants some unpredictability.
Guests could encounter Nikki while walking between houses, scare zones, food locations, and other experiences, rather than knowing exactly where to find her.
Universal hasn’t provided enough information to know how frequently she will appear or whether she’ll remain in certain sections of the park.
There’s also a major question for Florida guests.
Murdy works with Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, and this announcement specifically concerns the Hollywood event. Universal hasn’t confirmed whether Nikki will also appear at Universal Studios Florida.
Until Universal Orlando Resort announces something, guests shouldn’t assume this addition will appear on both coasts.
Fans Have Concerns About Guest Behavior
Nikki, roaming the park, has already created another conversation among Halloween Horror Nights fans.
Some are concerned about how guests could treat the performer playing her.
Those worries follow problems surrounding Art the Clown last year. When Art appeared as a roaming character, some guests reportedly took their interactions too far. Videos of guests bothering and terrorizing the character circulated online.
A roaming performer naturally creates more opportunities for direct interactions. Guests can approach, film, follow, or attempt to get a reaction from the character.
That doesn’t permit anyone to cross boundaries.
Don’t Make the Performer Part of the Scare
With Nikki appearing at Universal Studios Hollywood, the actress portraying her is still a performer doing a job.
The character may act frightening, unsettling, or interactive. The person portraying her still deserves the same respect as every other team member working Halloween Horror Nights.
Enjoy the interaction Universal creates. Get scared. Play along. Take in the unexpected encounter.
But don’t harass, follow, torment, touch, or deliberately make the actress uncomfortable.
Obsession Adds Another Mystery to Halloween Horror Nights
Universal clearly isn’t finished finding ways to surprise Halloween Horror Nights guests.
Adding Obsession (2026) so late gives Universal Studios Hollywood another horror property without necessarily requiring a full haunted house.
Murdy’s comments also make Nikki sound like someone guests may need to watch for throughout the night actively. That could turn spotting her into its own unexpected part of the event.
There are still questions about exactly how the experience will work and whether Universal Orlando Resort could eventually receive something similar.
For now, Hollywood guests have another reason to watch what’s happening around them at Halloween Horror Nights.
Just remember that while performers are there to scare you, you shouldn’t be trying to scare them.
