Lucasfilm is preparing to revisit one of the most important stories in Star Wars history, but this time, things are going to look very different.

While fans continue to wait for the next major chapter of the galaxy far, far away on the big screen, set to arrive in May 2027 in the form of Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter starring Ryan Gosling, Lucasfilm is returning to the story that started it all.

But this isn’t simply another remaster or re-release of the beloved 1977 movie. Instead, Star Wars: A New Hope is being reimagined through an unexpected new project that will bring some very familiar faces into an entirely different universe.

Lucasfilm Is Remaking A New Hope

Marvel has announced Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a five-part limited comic series launching in January 2027. Written by Kevin Smith and illustrated by David Marquez, the event will mark the first official crossover between the Star Wars and Marvel universes.

The story will take the events of A New Hope and place them within Marvel’s Earth-616, meaning Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca will find themselves alongside some of Marvel’s biggest heroes.

According to the announcement, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will witness the events of A New Hope unfold before them following a reality-shattering spell. That means iconic moments from the original Star Wars story will be revisited, but with an entirely new group of heroes watching — and potentially changing — what happens.

The limited series is particularly significant because it arrives as A New Hope celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2027.

The crossover will also feature major Marvel characters including Spider-Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hulk, while Darth Vader and Doctor Doom are among the villains involved.

Rather than simply adapting the 1977 movie into comic form, Hope Assembles appears to be using its story as the foundation for something much bigger. It asks what would happen if the original Star Wars adventure unfolded in a universe already populated by Marvel’s superheroes.

Star Wars Turns 50 in 2027

The anniversary is already shaping up to be a major celebration beyond the comic books.

The original Star Wars movie is being dubbed into Welsh for the first time, with the new version, Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, set to debut on S4C.

Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy will make its world premiere at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on February 13, 2027.

The first issue of Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles is scheduled to arrive in January 2027, with the five-issue series continuing monthly through May.

For Star Wars fans, that means one of the franchise’s most famous stories is about to be told in a way it has never been told before.
