Summer in Central Florida does not end when the calendar says it should.

Kids go back to school, the Halloween merchandise hits the shelves, and the parks start selling pumpkin everything, but it is still 95 degrees outside with humidity you could lean against. That gap between what the season says and what the weather actually does is one of the stranger parts of living or vacationing here.

Which is exactly what made Volcano Bay Nights work.

Universal spent this summer running a limited-capacity after-hours event at its water park, giving guests a way to do Volcano Bay when the sun was down and the temperature was survivable. It has been one of the more genuinely appealing seasonal offerings in Orlando, and it has been running since early May.

That run is about to end.

The Final Night at Volcano Bay Is August 21

Volcano Bay Nights closes out its 2026 season on Friday, August 21, according to Universal’s own announcement.

The limited-capacity event has been running select nights since May 3.

Tickets are $99 plus tax per person, with parking included. Universal Annual and Seasonal Passholders save 10 percent with a valid pass and photo ID.

If you have been meaning to do this one, you have days, not weeks.

What the Event Actually Includes

For anyone who hasn’t made it out, here is what the event has to offer.

Volcano Bay Nights runs after regular park hours. Ticketed guests can enter as early as 4 p.m., with the event itself starting at 7 p.m.

The main draw is shorter waits on the headliners, including:

  • Krakatau Aqua Coaster
  • Ko’okiri Body Plunge
  • TeAwa the Fearless River

Beyond the attractions, there is a Beach Bash at Waturi Beach with a live DJ and character meet-and-greets featuring Shrek and Madagascar characters from DreamWorks Animation.

Complimentary treats have included Blue Raspberry Churro Bites and garlic parmesan popcorn, with specialty food and drinks available for purchase around the park.

Why an After-Hours Water Park Makes Sense

The concept sounds odd until you have actually done a Central Florida water park in July.

Daytime at Volcano Bay in peak summer means direct sun, hot walkways, long lines in the open, and a heat index that has repeatedly reached advisory levels this month. The park is excellent. The conditions are punishing.

Running the same park after dark removes the single worst variable. Lower temperatures, no sun, and fewer people in line for the big three attractions.

That is a genuinely different product from the same park at 1 p.m., which is why this event found an audience.

Universal Has Been Building an After-Hours Strategy

Volcano Bay Nights is not an isolated experiment, and that context matters here.

Universal is moving into the premium after-hours space more broadly. Universal Nights debuts at Epic Universe this fall, with first announced dates on October 3 and October 17. Tickets start at $179.99 plus tax.

That event gives guests park access after regular operating hours with fewer crowds, entertainment, character encounters, and complimentary snacks and beverages. Guests can enter Epic Universe beginning at 7 p.m., with the private event running 9 p.m. to midnight.

Universal has tied early admission directly to Universal Celestial Goodnight, the park’s nighttime fireworks and projection spectacular, so the evening builds toward the exclusive portion rather than treating early entry as filler.

Volcano Bay Nights and Universal Nights are different products at very different price points, but they point at the same strategy. Universal is selling time in its parks after dark across multiple properties.

The Volcano Bay Schedule Expanded Once Already

One detail worth noting for anyone tracking how this event performed.

Universal’s original March announcement listed August event nights on the 7th, 14th, and 21st. The resort then expanded the schedule in late June, adding dates across the summer.

Expanding a limited-capacity event mid-season is usually a sign that it is selling. That bodes reasonably well for the event returning in 2027, though Universal has not announced anything.

Volcano Bay Closes Entirely in October

The bigger date to know if you are planning a trip.

Volcano Bay closes for seasonal maintenance on October 26 and reopens on March 24, 2027.

That is a five-month window with no water park at Universal Orlando. Worth factoring in if a water park day is part of how you plan an Orlando trip, especially over the holidays or spring break.

What Else Is Happening at Universal Right Now

A few things are running concurrently at the resort.

Passholder Appreciation Days run through September 30, with dedicated entrances, exclusive menu items, and extra savings.

And Halloween Horror Nights begins August 28, one week after Volcano Bay Nights ends. That timing is not accidental. Universal is handing the seasonal baton from a summer offering directly to its biggest fall event.

If You Want to Go

Friday, August 21, is the last night of the year for this one.

$99 plus tax, parking included, 10 percent off for Universal Annual and Seasonal Passholders with a valid pass and photo ID. Entry as early as 4 p.m., event starts at 7 p.m.

After that, Volcano Bay operates normal daytime hours until it closes for the season on October 26.

If a nighttime water park sounded good all summer and you never got around to it, this is the week.
