Construction is in the air at Disney’s Hollywood Studios–and not just next door to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, where Walt Disney World Resort is developing a new land inspired by Monsters, Inc. (2001). On Monday, guests arrived at the third Central Florida Disney park to find scaffolding around one of its bustling Quick-Service dining locations. Here’s everything we know about the apparent refurbishment project.

On August 17, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort guests arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to find scaffolding surrounding the Dockside Diner. This unique Quick-Service dining location on Echo Lake is inside a boat cleverly named the “S.S. Down The Hatch.”

The metal scaffolding completely surrounds the boat, on the water side, the dock side, and both ends of the vessel. Last week, Walt Disney World Resort drained Echo Lake, presumably to allow this and other refurbishment projects to occur.

Walt Disney World Resort did not issue a statement about the drained waterway or say how long the refurbishment would take. However, signs on fences around Echo Lake inform guests about the ongoing construction:

“Please pardon our appearance.
Keeping our city beautiful.
Echo Lake is being refurbished for your future enjoyment.”

Despite the ongoing refurbishment, the Dockside Diner is still serving guests its normal lunch and dinner menus during its standard hours. Seating remains available around Echo Lake.

Walt Disney World Resort recently repaired the tail of Gertie the Dinosaur, another icon of Echo Lake at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The green dinosaur-shaped structure is home to Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction, another Quick-Service Dining Location that remains open during the ongoing construction.
