For years, staying at one of Universal’s most expensive hotels came with more than a nicer room, elaborate theming, and a convenient location. The right reservation could also unlock a theme park benefit worth hundreds of dollars per person.
That makes Universal’s newest luxury hotel an unusual exception.
Guests can pay premium rates for one of the resort’s most impressive accommodations and still miss out on a perk available at several of Universal’s other high-end hotels. For a family visiting the parks, the difference can add hundreds, or even more than $1,000, to the cost of getting a comparable experience.
And that makes the hotel’s place within Universal Orlando’s luxury lineup worth a closer look.
Universal Orlando’s Luxury Hotels Come With Major Benefits
Universal has built an extensive lineup of hotels, ranging from more affordable accommodations to its top-tier Signature Collection properties.
Among the most recognizable are Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, and Loews Royal Pacific Resort. Universal currently lists all three in its Signature Collection, its highest hotel category.
These resorts offer upscale rooms, elaborate pools, restaurants, convenient transportation, and other amenities. However, one theme park perk has long made them especially valuable.
Guests staying at Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, or Royal Pacific receive complimentary Universal Express Unlimited for participating attractions at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure. Valid theme park admission is still required.
That benefit allows eligible guests to repeatedly use Express entrances at participating attractions rather than waiting in the regular standby line.
Depending on when you visit, that perk alone can dramatically change the value of a hotel reservation.
But Universal’s newest luxury resort works differently.
Universal Opened Its Most Unique Hotel Yet
Universal Helios Grand Hotel opened alongside Epic Universe in May 2025, giving Universal Orlando something it had never offered before: a luxury hotel connected directly to a theme park.
The Mediterranean-inspired property sits at the edge of Celestial Park and includes its own dedicated entrance into Epic Universe. Guests still need a valid admission to enter the park.
Helios also offers upscale dining, a rooftop lounge overlooking Epic Universe, a resort-style pool, club-level accommodations, and themed children’s suites.
Location may be its biggest selling point.
Instead of taking a bus from another Universal hotel, Helios guests can walk through the hotel’s dedicated entrance and enter Epic Universe. For visitors planning to spend significant time inside Universal’s newest park, that convenience is difficult for another resort to match.
Universal also places Helios in its Signature Collection alongside Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, and Royal Pacific Resort.
That’s where the comparison becomes complicated.
One Major Benefit Is Missing
Despite its luxury status, Universal Helios Grand Hotel does not include complimentary Universal Express Unlimited.
Importantly, Universal hasn’t technically “removed” Express Unlimited after previously offering it at Helios. The hotel opened without the perk. What Universal has done is leave the benefit out of its newest top-tier hotel while continuing to provide it at three other luxury properties.
Universal’s own hotel benefits page specifically limits complimentary Express Unlimited to Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, and Loews Royal Pacific Resort.
And this isn’t a small freebie.
Universal documentation lists the average price of a 2-Park Universal Express Unlimited pass between $129.99 and $389.99, depending on the date.
That puts the roughly $200 perk referenced in the headline comfortably within Universal’s own stated pricing range. On expensive dates, its value can approach $400 per person.
A family of four could therefore receive well over $1,000 in Express Unlimited value from a qualifying hotel stay, depending on the date and how they use the benefit.
There is another catch: complimentary Express Unlimited from those hotels currently applies to participating attractions at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure, not Epic Universe.
Helios guests don’t receive the perk for the original parks, while Express Unlimited isn’t currently bundled with the hotel for Epic Universe either.
The Missing Perk Changes the Value Equation
That’s what makes Helios such an unusual choice for guests compared to Universal’s most expensive resorts.
Someone booking Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, or Royal Pacific isn’t simply paying for a premium hotel. They’re potentially getting a high-value theme park product bundled into their stay.
At Helios, guests are paying for a different advantage: unmatched proximity to Epic Universe.
For some visitors, that’s absolutely worth it. Walking directly into the park can be a major convenience, particularly for families planning multiple Epic Universe days.
But guests expecting every Signature Collection hotel to offer the same major benefits should read the details carefully.
The difference becomes especially noticeable for families splitting their vacation among Universal’s parks. A Helios stay may put them within steps of Epic Universe, but it won’t give them complimentary Express Unlimited when they head to Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure.
Universal Guests Have a Big Choice to Make
Helios Grand Hotel remains one of Universal Orlando Resort’s most distinctive places to stay, and its direct entrance to Epic Universe gives it an advantage no other Universal hotel can match.
But luxury status doesn’t mean identical perks.
Guests choosing between Universal’s most expensive hotels now have to decide what matters more: direct access to Epic Universe or complimentary Express Unlimited at the resort’s two original theme parks.
When that missing benefit can be worth roughly $300 or more per person on certain dates, it’s not a minor difference buried in the fine print.
It’s potentially one of the biggest financial factors separating Universal Orlando’s top hotels.
