The Acolyte ended after a single season despite laying groundwork for a second. Speaking earlier this year, creator Leslye Headland described her original plans for Season 2, which would have placed Yoda at the center of a Jedi cover-up. According to Headland, Yoda would have supported Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson), helped conceal the true events of the Season 1 finale, and participated in protecting the Jedi Order’s public reputation.

Yoda has functioned as Star Wars‘ moral center for over four decades. A storyline built around him actively participating in a cover-up — rather than simply making a difficult wartime call — challenged that characterization directly. Headland has maintained that the intent was to expose the Jedi Order’s institutional flaws, not to portray Yoda himself as evil.
The Jedi Cover-Up, Explained
The planned Season 2 arc centered on a lie: Vernestra blamed Sol (Lee Jung-jae) for deaths that occurred during the Acolyte finale. In reality, Sol was killed by Osha (Amandla Stenberg), who had aligned with the dark side alongside Qimir (Manny Jacinto). Vernestra’s motivation wasn’t just protecting the Jedi Order’s image — she may have also been shielding Qimir specifically. Her closing line to Yoda in the finale, “We need to talk,” was reportedly meant to open that entire storyline in Season 2.
Yoda Has Never Been Purely Good
Long before either of these stories existed, Yoda’s onscreen choices already carried moral weight. He led the clone army into war at the Battle of Geonosis in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), and his decisions throughout Star Wars: The Clone Wars repeatedly put strategic necessity ahead of individual lives. The canceled Acolyte Season 2 storyline wouldn’t have reinvented Yoda’s character so much as it would have extended a moral grey area Lucasfilm had already been building for years.

Lucasfilm ended The Acolyte after one season, citing a combination of factors: a divided fan reception, ongoing lore disputes within the fandom, streaming performance that didn’t meet internal benchmarks, and the show’s high production costs relative to its viewership. As a result, the Yoda cover-up storyline was shelved indefinitely, with no confirmed plans for a Season 2 revival as of this writing.
Lucasfilm and EA Confirm Dark Side Vision Yoda for “Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes”
That same moral tension is now showing up in an entirely different medium: mobile gaming.
Lucasfilm and EA have unveiled Dark Side Vision Yoda for “Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes,” confirming months of fan speculation with new promotional artwork and an in-game loading screen. The character appears with a black, smoke-like body, glowing orange and yellow eyes, and an animalistic, four-legged posture — a total departure from the small, green Jedi Master fans have known since 1980.
This isn’t Lucasfilm inventing a new evil Yoda from scratch. It’s a direct adaptation of a scene Star Wars die-hards already know well.
The Clone Wars Season 6 Origin, Explained
The Dark Side Vision design pulls straight from Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6, during Yoda’s Force journey arc. In that storyline, Yoda confronts a manifestation of his own inner darkness while seeking to understand immortality and the nature of the Force itself. “Galaxy of Heroes” has now taken that vision and turned it into a fully playable character, rather than treating it as a one-off animated sequence.
For longtime fans, this matters because it reframes the reveal: this isn’t a retcon or an out-of-character stunt. It’s Lucasfilm mining nearly a decade-old canon material that many casual viewers never saw play out.
Gameplay Details: Alignment, Class, and Abilities
The in-game character is officially named Yoda (Dark Side Vision), and unlike every other Yoda variant in the game’s roster, he’s categorized under the Sith alignment rather than Jedi. He’s built as a Healer-class unit, which is itself a subversion — Sith-aligned units are traditionally aggression-focused, not support-oriented.
The Sith-aligned Healer classification is unusual enough that it’s already generating theorycrafting in the “Galaxy of Heroes” community about how the kit will interact with existing Sith Empire and Nightsisters squads.

Dark Side Vision Yoda isn’t arriving alone. He’s part of a broader Era of Myths & Legends expansion built around Legends continuity, unused concept art, and alternate-reality designs. Additional characters confirmed for the expansion include:

The expansion signals EA leaning further into “what if” designs and Legends-era nostalgia — territory the mainline films and shows have mostly avoided since the 2014 canon reset.
Although Dark Side Vision Yoda and the canceled Acolyte cover-up storyline exist in completely separate corners of the franchise, both point to the same trend: Lucasfilm and its partners are increasingly willing to test how far Yoda’s moral reputation can bend without breaking.
