Universal Orlando Resort is preparing for another major transformation, and this time it involves two closures that have generated strong reactions from fans for very different reasons.

One has spent years being criticized as one of the resort’s weakest attractions. The other has earned awards and built a loyal following among longtime visitors. Yet both are now on track to disappear as Universal continues reshaping its parks for the future.

While the company has not revealed every detail of what comes next, the direction is becoming increasingly clear. Universal is clearing space, retiring aging experiences, and making room for something new.

Here’s what guests need to know about the two confirmed 2027 closures and what could eventually replace them.

One Long-Running Attraction Is Finally Reaching the End

Universal has confirmed that Fast & Furious: Supercharged will permanently close in 2027.

The announcement wasn’t exactly shocking. Ever since the attraction opened at Universal Studios Florida, it has struggled to win over guests. Many visitors felt the experience failed to deliver on the excitement of the Fast & Furious franchise.

Instead of putting guests in the middle of a high-speed race, the attraction relied heavily on screens, motion simulation, and a party bus storyline that became a frequent target of criticism.

Universal is already building Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a new roller coaster replacing the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit location. Unlike Supercharged, the coaster promises the speed, thrills, and action fans expect from the franchise.

With a major Fast & Furious coaster on the way, keeping the older attraction around makes less sense. The coaster is expected to become the franchise’s centerpiece at Universal Orlando, relegating Supercharged to a lesser role moving forward.

What Could Take Its Place?

Universal has not announced a replacement, but speculation is already growing.

Many fans believe the attraction space could become home to a retro-inspired experience celebrating Universal’s movie history. Ghostbusters and Back to the Future remain among the most frequently mentioned possibilities.

Both franchises continue to maintain strong fan support, and Universal has shown renewed interest in classic properties through merchandise, seasonal offerings, and special events.

Another possibility is a return to the kind of attraction that originally helped define Universal. Experiences like Earthquake: The Big One allowed guests to step directly into movie scenes rather than simply watch them unfold.

A modern version of that concept could give visitors the chance to “live the movie” again through practical effects, immersive sets, and interactive storytelling.

For now, Universal is keeping its plans under wraps.

Another Fan Favorite Is Also Heading for Closure

The second confirmed closure is far more surprising.

Mythos Restaurant is expected to close in 2027 as Universal continues clearing the Lost Continent area at Islands of Adventure.

Unlike Fast & Furious: Supercharged, Mythos has enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive reputation. The restaurant has earned industry recognition for years and remains one of the most respected dining locations in any theme park.

Its closure is tied to something much larger than the restaurant itself.

Universal has spent years slowly dismantling Lost Continent. Poseidon’s Fury closed in 2023, and demolition has continued throughout the land, with additional remnants gradually disappearing behind construction walls.

At this point, Lost Continent serves more as a pathway connecting guests between Jurassic Park and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter than as a destination in its own right.

Because of that, many fans have long believed that a complete redevelopment was inevitable.

The Future Could Bring Nintendo Expansion

The biggest mystery now centers on what replaces Lost Continent.

Two names continue to dominate fan discussions: The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon.

Neither project has been confirmed, but both franchises seem like logical candidates as Universal expands its relationship with Nintendo.

Many observers believe Universal may eventually expand Nintendo properties across multiple parks, as it did with Harry Potter. Instead of limiting Nintendo experiences to a single area, the company could create major Nintendo destinations throughout the resort.

A Zelda-themed land would fit naturally inside Islands of Adventure thanks to its fantasy settings, adventure-driven storytelling, and iconic locations.

Pokémon remains another strong possibility. The franchise is one of the most successful entertainment brands in the world and could easily support attractions, dining, character encounters, and merchandise.

Whatever ultimately arrives, few expect Universal to leave such a large piece of real estate untouched for long.

A Huge Transformation Is Taking Shape

By 2027, Universal Orlando Resort could look dramatically different.

Fast & Furious: Supercharged is on its way out as Universal prepares for the arrival of a new Fast & Furious coaster and whatever follows in the former attraction’s space. Meanwhile, Mythos appears set to join the growing list of Lost Continent experiences disappearing as demolition continues across the land.

Universal has not revealed every part of its long-term strategy, but the overall picture is becoming clearer. The resort continues moving toward larger intellectual properties, more immersive environments, and major land-wide transformations designed to keep guests returning for years to come.

Whether that future includes Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Zelda, Pokémon, or something completely unexpected remains to be seen. What is certain is that two significant Universal experiences are heading for the exit, and their departures will help shape the next era of Universal Orlando Resort.
