Guests visiting Universal Orlando Resort this summer are preparing to say goodbye to a familiar part of the resort experience. After serving visitors for more than a decade, a popular dining location is officially nearing the end of its run, marking another notable change for a destination that continues to evolve.

Universal has spent the last several years introducing new attractions, expanding entertainment offerings, and reshaping the guest experience. While major ride announcements often grab attention, dining locations also play a huge role in how visitors experience the resort.

Now, one longtime restaurant is preparing to close its doors for good, ending a chapter that stretches back more than a decade. At the same time, Universal already has plans in motion for what comes next.

CityWalk Continues to Be a Major Draw

For many guests, Universal CityWalk serves as far more than a pathway between the parking garages and the theme parks. The entertainment district has developed into a destination of its own, attracting visitors before and after their park days.

CityWalk offers a mix of shopping, entertainment, and dining options. Guests can browse Universal merchandise stores, visit specialty retail locations, or test their skills inside Universal’s escape room experiences.

Even with those offerings, food remains one of CityWalk’s biggest attractions. The district is home to everything from quick-service counters to full-service restaurants, giving visitors plenty of choices throughout the day.

That variety has become especially important as Universal Orlando Resort continues welcoming large crowds. With more visitors spending time across the resort, convenient dining locations have become increasingly valuable.

Unfortunately for longtime fans, one of those familiar quick-service stops is about to disappear.

One Popular Spot Is Nearing Its Final Days

Universal has confirmed that Hot Dog Hall of Fame will permanently close in July 2026.

The restaurant first opened in 2014 and quickly established itself as a quick option for guests looking to grab a meal without sitting down for long. Its menu featured regional hot dog styles inspired by famous ballparks and cities across the United States.

Over the years, the restaurant became a recognizable fixture within CityWalk. While it may not have generated the same excitement as some larger restaurants, it earned a loyal following among returning guests who appreciated its convenience and simple menu.

More than a decade is a long run for any dining location in an entertainment district, and Universal appears ready to move in a different direction.

That decision means guests have only a limited time left to enjoy the restaurant before it closes permanently.

A Busy Summer Will Feel the Impact

The timing of the closure is notable because it arrives during one of Universal Orlando Resort’s busiest periods of the year.

Summer crowds routinely fill the resort, and many visitors rely on quick-service dining options to make the most of their time. Whether guests are heading into the parks early, taking a midday break, or grabbing dinner before returning to their hotels, fast dining locations help keep traffic moving throughout CityWalk.

With Hot Dog Hall of Fame leaving the lineup, visitors will temporarily have one fewer quick-service option available.

That does not mean guests will struggle to find food. CityWalk still offers a wide range of restaurants and snack locations. However, the loss of a quick and convenient counter-service spot could be noticeable during peak lunch and dinner periods.

The good news is that the space is not expected to remain vacant for long.

A New Concept Is Already Waiting

Universal has announced that the location will be replaced by Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice.

The restaurant comes from *NSYNC member Joey Fatone, whose Fat One’s brand already operates in other locations. The concept combines specialty hot dogs with Italian ice, offering a menu designed to appeal to guests seeking a quick meal or a refreshing treat.

Rather than moving away from the hot dog theme entirely, Universal appears to be embracing a refreshed version of it. The new venue will feature updated branding and a celebrity connection, which could attract curious visitors.

For CityWalk, the addition fits into a larger pattern that has defined the district for years. Universal regularly evaluates restaurants, entertainment offerings, and retail locations to keep the area feeling fresh.

The End of One Era and the Beginning of Another

The closure of Hot Dog Hall of Fame marks the end of a more than 12-year run at Universal CityWalk, bringing another piece of the district’s history to a close. For many guests, it served as a dependable stop for a fast meal before heading back into the parks or ending a long day at the resort.

At the same time, Universal Orlando remains focused on the future. As the resort continues growing, CityWalk remains an important part of the overall guest experience.

When Hot Dog Hall of Fame closes in July 2026, fans will say goodbye to a familiar favorite. Not long after, Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice will step into its place and begin a brand-new chapter for one of CityWalk’s most recognizable dining spaces.
