There are certain experiences at Disneyland that fall into a category entirely separate from the rides, food, entertainment, and seasonal offerings that define most guests’ visits. They are experiences built for a specific kind of Disney fan, the kind who wants to understand not just what the park is but how it came to be, who built it, what he was thinking when he built it, and what pieces of his original vision are still visible in the park if you know exactly where to look. These experiences reward the guests who have already ridden every ride, eaten at every restaurant, and seen every show, and are now looking for something that goes deeper than any of those things can take them.

A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps was one of those experiences, and for a lot of Disneyland fans, it was the single most meaningful thing the resort offered beyond the park itself. The multi-hour guided tour took guests through the story of Walt Disney’s life and the creation of Disneyland in a way that no amount of independent park exploration could replicate, with VIP Tour Guides, earpieces to ensure guests caught every word, front-of-line access to select attractions, and most significantly, access to areas of the park that are not open to the general public under any other circumstances. The most notable of those exclusive areas was Walt’s private apartment above the Fire House on Main Street, U.S.A., the space where Walt Disney himself stayed when he visited the park he built, a room that carries more history per square foot than almost anything else at the Disneyland Resort.

The tour was paused last year to make way for a new experience celebrating the 70th anniversary of Disneyland Resort, a different but equally historical offering focused on seven decades of milestones and celebrations rather than specifically on Walt himself. That 70th anniversary tour served its purpose, offering guests a meaningful way to engage with the resort’s history during a landmark year.

Now A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps is coming back. A reimagined version of the tour is set to debut on August 14, and the updated experience includes a new starting point in Disney California Adventure that was not part of the original format.

What the Reimagined Disneyland Tour Includes

The returning version of A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps retains the core elements that made the original tour one of the most popular guided experiences Disneyland has ever offered, while adding new components that expand the storytelling beyond Disneyland Park itself.

The tour now begins at Disney California Adventure, where guests will be immersed in captivating stories connected to Walt Disney’s legacy before moving into Disneyland Park. The two-hour format includes iconic attractions, the earpiece system that ensures every guest can hear the tour guide clearly regardless of ambient noise, and the rare access to Walt’s private apartment above the Fire House on Main Street, U.S.A., which has always been the emotional centerpiece of the experience.

Walt’s apartment is not something most Disneyland guests will ever see. It is a small, intimate space designed for Walt’s personal use during park visits and preserved to reflect his presence there. Standing in that room offers a genuinely different kind of Disney experience from anything on the park floor, and for fans of Walt Disney’s life and history, it’s often the moment the tour is remembered long after everything else has faded.

The Disney California Adventure starting point is a meaningful addition because it expands the narrative context of the tour. Walt Disney’s vision extended well beyond Disneyland Park, and beginning the experience in a space adjacent to but distinct from the original park gives the storytelling room to cover ground the previous version of the tour did not.

Pricing, On-Sale Dates, and Additional Details

Specific pricing, the on-sale date for reservations, and the full breakdown of what the reimagined tour includes beyond the elements already confirmed have not yet been announced. Disneyland has indicated that more details will be released closer to the August 14 debut. Be sure to keep an eye out for that announcement during the summer months. The tour is offered at an additional cost beyond regular park admission. This stays consistent with how A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps has always been structured at Disneyland.

For guests planning Disneyland visits in August who want to include the tour. Make sure you are watching for the on-sale announcement and all the other details that come with it. Previous versions of this tour have been popular enough that availability can fill quickly once bookings open. Be sure to act fast is you want to secure a spot on this tour.

August 14 is the date. Walt’s apartment is still part of the experience. For the Disney fans who have been waiting for this tour to come back since it paused last year, the wait is almost over.
