Season 2 of Ahsoka is now in post-production, and creator–and new co-President of Lucasfilm–Dave Filoni has revealed the status of the third season.

Following the success of Season 1, Lucasfilm’s Disney+ era continues to build toward a larger interconnected story involving Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). The series has become one of the key pillars of modern Star Wars storytelling, bridging events from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels to the live-action Mando-Verse, and projects like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew.
As part of the New Republic era, Ahsoka was set to be part of the narrative that led to Filoni’s own Mando-Verse crossover movie–a movie that was announced by former Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy over three years ago at Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London. In the time since then, many changes have happened at the Star Wars studio, including the fast-tracking of two movies outside of those announced: Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu (coming May 22, 2026) and Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, which lands in theaters May 2027.

Recent reports place Filoni’s movie and the Mando-Verse at large on precarious ground at Lucasfilm, meaning that a fourth season of The Mandalorian, the Mando-Verse movie, and a third season of Ahsoka may never happen. We’ve heard from Jon Favreau about Mando Season 4, but Filoni has now addressed the status of Ahsoka Season 3.
“You never know. Everything works as planned, and I know where the story goes and where it should tie up. And so, I’m not really worried about that,” Filoni told Screen Rant‘s Ash Crossan on the online discourse around Ahsoka‘s continuation.
“But fan speculation is always fun. It’s always fun to hear what people think. But we got a lot going on right now in the present,” the Chief Creative Officer explained. “Like a Jedi, you must keep your mind in the here and now. We’ve got [Maul–Shadow Lord], and we’ve got [The Mandalorian and Grogu] happening, so it’s very exciting.”

Season 2 of Ahsoka is already facing one major transition after the death of Ray Stevenson, with Rory McCann stepping into the role of Baylan Skoll. Now, another performer from the first season has confirmed she will not return.
Claudia Black, who portrayed Nightsister Klothow in Season 1, recently revealed she exited the project ahead of the upcoming season. According to Black, the decision ultimately came down to logistical and financial realities surrounding the production’s move to London.
The Nightsisters played an important role throughout Season 1 as Thrawn’s return to the main galaxy began reshaping the future of the franchise. Because of that, many fans now expect Klothow could be recast rather than written out entirely, though Lucasfilm has not announced any replacement performer at this time.

Filoni has also confirmed a third recast in relation to the Ahsoka series cast. While anticipation is high for the return of live-action Star Wars, the studio’s recent animated outing, Star Wars: Maul–Shadow Lord, has ignited the fandom. Having just aired its finale, Maul has gone down as one of the most acclaimed series to come out of Lucasfilm. The ten-episode show sees the return of Lord Maul (Sam Witwer) as he seeks revenge on the Shadow Collective. Things, of course, go awry for Maul, and the Inquisitorius descends.
Notably, the series saw the return of both the First and Eleventh Brothers of Darth Vader’s Inquisitorius, with the First Brother–Marrok–playing a big role in the series. Interestingly, this character has already appeared in the Star Wars canon before. The Force user first appeared in Ahsoka Season 1, played by Paul Darnell, and was eventually bested by Dawson’s Tano. Marrok also appeared in Tales of the Empire, the second series in the Tales anthology series.

But his return in Maul sees a recast take place. While Paul Darnell embodied the character in Ahsoka, the larger talking role in Maul went to A. J. LoCascio. LoCascio is known for his voice work across franchises, including as Remy LeBeau/Gambit in Marvel Studios’ critically acclaimed X-Men ’97 animated series.
With recasts and production question marks abound, the Star Wars franchise continues to prove it’s as fluid as they come. With Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan at the helm of Lucasfilm, it will be interesting to see where they take the galaxy far, far away in their first few years as co-Presidents. At the moment, all eyes are on how the next wave of Mando-Verse media is received.

When it comes to Ahsoka Season 2, Rosario Dawson has already teased what audiences can expect from Ahsoka’s next chapter. After the character’s emotional journey through the World Between Worlds and her confrontation with Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), Dawson suggested Season 2 will present a lighter and more emotionally open version of the former Jedi–embodying the spirit of her younger Clone Wars self.
That evolution could become especially important as the franchise moves deeper into the growing conflict surrounding Thrawn’s return and the next phase of Lucasfilm’s interconnected Star Wars storytelling.
