Cedar Point Issues Closure Notice, Effective May 24

This weekend, Cedar Point issued a closure notice for its attached water park, Cedar Point Shores. Here’s what guests need to know before making the trek to the iconic Sandusky, Ohio, theme park.

Cedar Point Shores Closure Notice

Earlier this weekend, Cedar Point issued an official closure notice for the Cedar Point Shores water park on its official Instagram story. It read:

“PARK NOTICE

Due to forecasted weather, Cedar Point Shores will be closed May 23-24, 2026.

Stay in the loop before you go! Check the park website & mobile app for all current operational updates.”

As of Sunday, May 24, the Six Flags-owned vacation destination’s website states that while the water park remains closed, the main theme park is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Some attractions may be closed during heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Cedar Point Shores is currently operating on a weekend-only schedule and is not scheduled to reopen until Saturday, May 30.

On Saturday, May 23, the National Weather Service Cleveland issued this forecast for the region, including Sandusky, Ohio:

After the widespread rain this morning, there will be a brief lull for most across the region. This afternoon, scattered showers/thunderstorms are likely with a few strong to severe storms possible, primarily in north and central OH. #OHwx #PAwx

According to the NWS Cleveland, scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout Sunday afternoon. Warmer and drier weather is expected to begin on Monday, May 25.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into the evening with drier weather to start the week on Monday. Temperatures today will be seasonable, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. #OHwx #PAwx
