Disney World vacations can bring out strong emotions. Families spend thousands of dollars planning trips, racing to Lightning Lane return windows, and trying to squeeze every possible attraction into a single day. But every once in a while, the pressure inside the parks crosses a line that no Cast Member should ever have to deal with.

That appears to be exactly what happened recently at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

According to WDWNT, a Canadian tourist was arrested after allegedly shoulder-checking a Cast Member during an incident that unfolded in Pandora – The World of Avatar after park closing.

The situation reportedly happened on March 20, just after Disney’s Animal Kingdom officially closed for the evening. According to the report, the park had a 7 p.m. closing time, and the confrontation began around 7:10 p.m.

While Disney World deals with difficult guest interactions from time to time, this particular case stands out because of how aggressively the guest allegedly continued pushing forward after multiple warnings from Cast Members.

And honestly, it also shows how serious Disney has become about protecting employees inside the parks.

Trouble Begins After Park Closing

According to WDWNT, 48-year-old Domenico Barbieri of Ontario, Canada, was arrested and charged with first-degree misdemeanor battery following the confrontation. Court records reportedly show that he pleaded not guilty after the incident.

The issue reportedly started when Barbieri approached a Cast Member about family members who were outside an attraction queue after the ride had already closed for the night.

At Disney World, this happens fairly often near park closing. Guests try to squeeze in one final ride before the attraction shuts down, especially at major headliners with historically long waits. Over at Animal Kingdom, there’s one ride in particular that tends to create massive demand right up until closing time: Avatar Flight of Passage.

Although the sheriff’s report did not specifically name the attraction, WDWNT noted that law enforcement arrived near Pandora – The World of Avatar, making Flight of Passage or Na’vi River Journey the likely locations involved.

Anyone who has visited Animal Kingdom recently understands why.

Flight of Passage remains one of the most popular attractions at Walt Disney World. Even years after Pandora first opened, the ride still regularly posts wait times well over two hours during busy periods. Many experienced Disney guests intentionally wait until the end of the night to ride because lines sometimes move quicker close to park closing.

But Disney’s operational rule is simple: once the queue closes, it closes.

According to WDWNT, the attraction entrance had already been chained off for the evening when Barbieri’s family members allegedly jumped the chains and entered the queue anyway.

The Cast Member reportedly escorted the family out of the line at that point.

That should have been the end of the situation.

Instead, things allegedly escalated.

Guests Allegedly Tried Entering Through Lightning Lane

According to the arrest report cited by WDWNT, Barbieri and his family later returned and allegedly attempted to enter through the Lightning Lane entrance instead.

That is where the situation reportedly turned physical.

The Cast Member allegedly stood in front of Barbieri and attempted to block his path while asking him to leave the attraction area again. According to the report, she also attempted to move the conversation outside the attraction entrance.

The arrest report then described the alleged confrontation in more serious detail.

According to WDWNT, the report stated that Barbieri “continued advancing” and shoved the Cast Member with his shoulder while allegedly saying she was not going to stop him.

The report further alleged that the employee continued positioning herself in front of him to prevent him from advancing deeper into the attraction queue where additional employees and guests were located.

The situation allegedly escalated again moments later.

According to the report, Barbieri allegedly shoulder-checked the Cast Member a second time while continuing farther into the Lightning Lane area.

Eventually, he reportedly stopped near the rest of the crowd already waiting in line.

Disney Security and management were then alerted about what had happened.

Disney Has Become Increasingly Aggressive About Guest Misconduct

One thing that continues to stand out in situations like this is how aggressively Disney now responds to disruptive behavior inside the parks.

Years ago, many incidents involving guest arguments might have simply ended with removal from the park. But over the past several years, Disney has clearly shifted toward stricter enforcement, especially when Cast Members are involved.

Physical contact with employees is something Disney appears to treat very seriously now.

And honestly, that probably doesn’t surprise many frequent visitors.

Cast Members deal with an incredible amount of pressure every single day. They manage crowd control, upset guests, attraction breakdowns, severe weather, and increasingly complicated vacation systems involving Lightning Lane reservations and virtual queues.

Late-night attraction closures can become especially tense because guests often feel desperate to ride one last attraction before leaving the park.

Pandora tends to be one of the busiest areas during those final operating hours.

Many guests intentionally head there right before closing because Animal Kingdom has a unique nighttime atmosphere that completely transforms the land. The glowing pathways, bioluminescent lighting, and nighttime soundtrack make Pandora feel entirely different after sunset.

That also means emotions can run high when guests discover they’ve missed their final opportunity to ride.

Still, Disney Cast Members are simply enforcing park operating procedures.

Once chains go up and queues close, employees generally do not have flexibility to allow additional guests into the line.

The Guest Allegedly Corroborated Parts of the Story

According to WDWNT, the sheriff’s office interviewed Barbieri following the incident, and the report stated that he “largely corroborated” the employee’s account.

The report claimed Barbieri admitted the Cast Member attempted to block him with her hand on the rail while he continued moving forward against instructions.

That detail could become significant as the legal process continues.

According to WDWNT, a pre-trial conference hearing has been scheduled for May 22.

Neither Barbieri nor his attorney reportedly commented on the case.

For Disney fans, though, the bigger takeaway may simply be how quickly situations can spiral inside the parks when guests refuse to follow basic instructions.

Most Disney vacations go smoothly. Millions of guests visit Walt Disney World every year without problems.

But incidents like this continue serving as reminders that Cast Members are not there to absorb aggressive behavior from frustrated guests.

They are employees doing their jobs.

And increasingly, Disney appears willing to back them up when situations cross the line into physical confrontation.
