The Snyderverse continues to hold a firm grip on fans. The unofficial name, coined by audiences, refers to Zack Snyder’s three films within the DC Extended Universe—Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2021).

While the DCEU has now been replaced by James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe (DCU), those films remain a defining chapter in Warner Bros.’ superhero movie history.

James Gunn’s New DC Universe Movie Slate

The new DCU has already officially launched. Superman (2025), written and directed by Gunn himself, introduced David Corenswet (Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman), alongside Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), and grossed $618.7 million worldwide.

It will be followed by Supergirl (June 26, 2026), starring Milly Alcock (Kara Zor-El/Supergirl), and Clayface (October 23, 2026), led by Tom Rhys Harries, before Man of Tomorrow (July 9, 2027) continues the story.

DC Fans Want the Snyderverse Back

But despite that major reset, a huge portion of the DC fanbase continues to push for the return of Snyder’s vision, whether as a continuation or running parallel to the DCU. Recently, that conversation resurfaced as Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) marked its five-year anniversary. Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder addressed the possibility of revisiting his trilogy.

“We absolutely talked about it quite a bit,” he said. “We live in a world where all that is possible. Whatever form it would take, that would be amazing.”

He also reflected on the long road to releasing his four-hour cut, which followed the troubled production and reception of Justice League (2017).

“I was on the ride that created Justice League, and if you were in my shoes there were numerous times, dark times, when there was no chance that there will ever be my version of it. It will never exist. It can’t… cost, politics, everything stood against.”

He added, “And yet it exists. The fans should never forget they did that.”

There’s currently no verifiable data to confirm Justice League‘s new streaming success. Still, with renewed visibility and continued fan demand, the question remains whether the Snyderverse could return in some form—even as the DCU moves forward with its own slate.
