We finally have an update on Hogwarts Castle at Universal Orlando Resort.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter first opened at Universal Orlando Resort in June 2010, debuting inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure. The land transformed the park overnight, drawing massive crowds and redefining how theme parks approached immersive storytelling.

Anchored by Hogsmeade village and Hogwarts Castle, the expansion introduced Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a groundbreaking dark ride combining robotics, projection, and physical sets. The towering castle quickly became one of the most recognizable icons in any theme park.
Universal doubled down on the franchise four years later. In 2014, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley opened at Universal Studios Florida, connected to Hogsmeade by the Hogwarts Express. The two lands – joined by a third at Epic Universe in 2025, inspired by the Ministry of Magic and the Fantastic Beasts franchise – helped cement Universal Orlando Resort as a direct competitor to Walt Disney World.
Since then, Hogwarts Castle has served as both the visual centerpiece of Hogsmeade and the entrance to Forbidden Journey. The structure looms above the village skyline, providing one of the most photographed views in the entire resort.

That view changed suddenly in March.
Guests arriving in Hogsmeade discovered that Hogwarts Castle had been almost completely covered in scrim and scaffolding as part of a major exterior refurbishment. Universal confirmed work was underway but offered few details, only stating the project would wrap up sometime later this year.
Now, however, we finally have a clearer idea of when the castle will return.
Hogwarts Castle Refurbishment Update
According to the latest update, the exterior refurbishment of Hogwarts Castle is expected to be completed by May 21 (via Inside Universal).
If that timeline holds, the scrims covering much of the structure should begin disappearing in the coming weeks.

The work appears focused on refreshing the castle’s exterior surfaces, likely addressing wear caused by Florida’s heat, humidity, and frequent storms. Large-scale maintenance like this is common for theme park icons, though it rarely happens on such a visible scale.
Still, the timing has been frustrating for some guests.
Hogwarts Castle is the defining landmark of Hogsmeade, and seeing it wrapped in construction materials disrupts the carefully designed reveal moment when visitors first enter the land. For many fans, that first glimpse of the castle rising above the rooftops is a highlight of the entire park.
The upside is that the timeline points to a relatively quick turnaround.

If the refurbishment wraps by May 21, the castle should be fully visible again before Universal Orlando Resort’s peak summer crowds arrive. That timing ensures one of the resort’s most important visual icons is restored for millions of seasonal visitors.
Even with the castle partially hidden, there is still plenty for guests to experience across the resort.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey remains open inside Hogwarts Castle, while Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure continues drawing some of the longest wait times at Islands of Adventure. The attraction remains one of Universal’s most popular rides years after opening.
Beyond the Wizarding World, Universal Orlando Resort now spans three theme parks (plus a water park) following the debut of Epic Universe. Between new lands, returning favorites, and classic attractions across the resort, guests still have no shortage of experiences while Hogwarts Castle undergoes its refresh.
