When Disneyland Park opened on Wednesday, April 29, it ushered in a new era for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. After months of waiting, half of the Star Wars land transitioned into the original trilogy era, with the other half of Batuu remaining in the sequel timeline. Here’s what Southern California Disney Parks fans need to know.

Earlier this year, Disneyland Resort announced several changes coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Oga’s Cantina closed for several weeks as Imagineers brought the bar back in time to the original trilogy era. Here’s a look at all the other changes in Batuu, effective on April 29, 2026.

Half of Batuu operating in the original trilogy timeline allows characters like Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader to appear in the Star Wars land for the first time. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace shared a video of Princess Leia on her first trip into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge outside of special or limited-time events:

The user also captured footage of the Sith Lord during his first visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge:

The Imperial stormtroopers even got some new dialogue:

Luckily, other familiar faces aren’t going anywhere. Sequel timeline characters, like Ahsoka Tano, The Mandalorian, Grogu, and Rey, will continue to appear in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, greeting visitors alongside fan-favorites from both eras, like Chewbacca and R2-D2.

Background Music

Disneyland Resort also updated the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge background music loop with pieces from legendary composer John Williams’ original trilogy scores, including “Main Title” at the land’s entrances, “Cantina Band” near Oga’s Cantina, and other classics like “Han Solo and the Princess” and more playing throughout Batuu. X user @ScottGustin shared this video of some of the iconic scores in action at Disneyland Park on Wednesday:

Several shops and other locations throughout Batuu received updates as part of the timeline shift. First Order Cargo transformed into Black Spire Surplus, which Disney Parks Blog described as a “military salvage operation offering artifacts from across the history of the galaxy, including Imperial and Rebel items from the Galactic Civil War.”

On Wednesday, Black Spire Surplus still had First Order items in stock. However, Disneyland Resort confirmed to @laughingplace that the store was still in a transitional period and would eventually phase out all First Order merchandise:

A Disney representative has reached out to let us know that Batuu is still transitioning, and this First Order / Kylo Ren merch won’t be here forever.

The display items in Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities are changing as the antique store goes back in time, showcasing older curiosities and artifacts. An earlier generation of the Mubo family has taken over Droid Depot, where Disney Park guests can purchase and create their own BB-style droid prototype.

There’s more fun to come next month, with limited-time food, beverages, and merchandise for May the Fourth, and the updated Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run storyline tying in with The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026).
