Several Batman movies are in the works, but one is suddenly right around the corner.
Upcoming Movies Starring the Caped Crusader
In October 2027, Matt Reeves’ The Batman — Part II (2027) will bring back Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight in the standalone universe dubbed The Batman Epic Crime Saga (while also being a DC Elseworlds entry), following the 2022 film that grossed $772.3 million worldwide. Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon) and Colin Farrell (The Penguin) also return.
Then there’s long-gestating reboot The Brave and the Bold (TBA), which will join Superman (2025) and the upcoming films Supergirl (2026) and Clayface (2026) in the newly established DC Universe (DCU) under James Gunn and Peter Safran. Directed by Andy Muschietti (2023’s The Flash), that film will adapt the popular DC comic book of the same name; however, it has yet to announce a release date or cast its new Bruce Wayne/Batman.

A New Batman Film Series Is Coming
However, The Brave and the Bold isn’t the only Batman comic book arc that’s getting a major adaptation. Last year, following an official announcement at New York Comic-Con 2025, Variety reported that Batman: Knightfall would be getting a multi-part, animated film series based on the comic book that was released in three parts between 1993 and 1994.
Knightfall is best remembered for Bane breaking Batman’s back, an image that has become synonymous with the character’s enduring struggle, also thanks to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (2012), which starred Christian Bale and Tom Hardy in those roles and adapted elements of the comic book, along with many other well-known Batman storylines.

Now, Variety reports that Warner Bros. Animation, DC Studios, and Warner Home Entertainment are set to bring Batman: Knightfall to France’s Annecy Animation Festival, which takes place over June 21—27, for a special screening event.
The film is described as “the first installment of a multi-part animated event bringing to life one of the most iconic and beloved runs in the rich history of Batman comics.”
Batman: Knightfall Part 1 will premiere at the event in June. A release date has yet to be confirmed; however, similar to previous DC animated features, it will likely get a digital and streaming release later this year. Annecy’s full program will be shared on April 28.

DC’s official synopsis for Batman: Knightfall reads:
“When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”
Batman: Knightfall is being directed by Jeff Wamester, known for his work on DC’s animated Tomorrowverse projects, including the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy, and written by Jeremy Adams. Rick Morales serves as supervising producer on the films, alongside producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Sam Register and Michael Uslan are on board as executive producers.
