Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of the most visually stunning theme parks on earth. The Tree of Life stands at its center as one of the most iconic structures in all of Walt Disney World, carved with hundreds of animal figures and surrounded by immersive environments that shift from African savanna to Asian rainforest to a prehistoric landscape in the span of a short walk. The park has always operated on a different frequency than Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios, slower in some ways, more grounded in the natural world, built around the idea that animals and conservation deserve as central a role in a Disney experience as any animated franchise.

It is also, right now, a park in the middle of significant change. Character meet-and-greet locations are shifting. A beloved section of the park is temporarily closed for a major transformation. New experiences are on the way. And on top of all of that, the parking lot made news this week for reasons that had nothing to do with any of it.

Here is everything currently happening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, starting with the most immediately striking development.

A Van Caught Fire in the Animal Kingdom Parking Lot

A vehicle fire broke out in the parking lot of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. DinoLand U.S.A., an archival Disney parks account on social media, shared a photo of the van in flames and wrote simply: “Animal Kingdom right now!!!” The image showed the vehicle engulfed with no surrounding context about what led to the fire or whether anyone was inside.

At the time of publication, no further details are available about the incident, including the cause of the fire, whether guests or cast members were involved, or how quickly emergency services responded. Parking lot vehicle fires are not unheard of in Florida’s heat, particularly during the warmer months when temperatures inside parked vehicles can rise dramatically. The Animal Kingdom parking area, like all Walt Disney World lots, has security and emergency response infrastructure in place for situations requiring immediate attention.

Anyone currently visiting Animal Kingdom or planning to visit today should be aware of the situation and follow any guidance from Cast Members or parking lot attendants regarding affected areas of the lot. Details will be updated as more information becomes available.

Donald, Daisy, and Goofy Have a New Meet-and-Greet Location

Separate from the parking lot incident, guests visiting Animal Kingdom right now will notice that Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy have relocated their meet-and-greet to a new spot inside the park. The trio is currently greeting guests near the Wildlife Express Train Station, a location that is not their permanent home but has become a functional temporary base during a period of significant park reshuffling.

The move is connected to the temporary closure of Rafiki’s Planet Watch and the Wildlife Express Train that serves as the only transportation to that area. With the train not running, the station itself has been repurposed as a character greeting space. Donald and Daisy are wearing their safari-inspired outfits familiar to guests from Tusker House Restaurant, and Goofy appears in his outdoor look. The setting fits Animal Kingdom’s adventurous aesthetic well enough that the location feels intentional rather than improvised.

The reason Donald and Daisy ended up at the train station specifically involves a chain reaction of moves across the park. When Rafiki’s Planet Watch closed for construction, Timon and Rafiki, who had been greeting guests near Conservation Station, relocated to The Oasis near the park entrance. That move displaced Donald and Daisy from their previous spot, which then sent the trio to the train station. It is a domino sequence that reflects just how interconnected Animal Kingdom’s entertainment offerings are.

Guests looking for Donald, Daisy, and Goofy should head toward the Wildlife Express Train Station area and follow the signage directing them to the character greeting location. The My Disney Experience app will have the most current schedule information since character appearance times vary throughout the day.

What Is Happening at Rafiki’s Planet Watch

The closure of Rafiki’s Planet Watch is the most significant change currently reshaping Animal Kingdom’s layout, and the reason for it is one of the more exciting announcements the park has made in recent years.

Disney is transforming the area to introduce a new experience themed to Bluey, the Australian children’s series that has become one of the most popular shows among young audiences worldwide. Bluey and her sister Bingo are expected to appear for meet-and-greets once the area reopens, alongside interactive activities designed for families including dancing and games. The addition reflects Disney’s ongoing strategy of bringing characters into the parks that resonate deeply with the youngest guests while still offering something for the whole family.

The transformation also extends to Affection Section, the petting zoo that has been a long-running feature of Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Rather than reopening in its previous form, Affection Section is expected to be reimagined with Australian animals to match Bluey‘s setting. The show takes place in Brisbane, Australia, and theming the animal encounters around Australian species is a smart way to maintain the educational and conservation-focused spirit of the area while tying it directly to the new Bluey experience.

There is no confirmed reopening date for Rafiki’s Planet Watch or the Wildlife Express Train at this time. Guests planning a visit specifically to see the Bluey experience should check Disney’s official channels for updates before their trip.

How All of This Affects a Disney Vacation

For families visiting Animal Kingdom in the near term, the practical implications of these changes depend on what they were planning to do.

Guests hoping to meet Donald, Daisy, and Goofy should head to the Wildlife Express Train Station area rather than looking for them in their previous locations. The setup is actually a reasonably low-key meet-and-greet environment compared to some of the busier character spots at Walt Disney World, which means wait times are often shorter than at higher-traffic locations in other parks. Meeting all three characters in one stop rather than hunting them down separately is a genuine convenience.

Guests who planned to visit Rafiki’s Planet Watch, ride the Wildlife Express Train, or use the Affection Section petting zoo with young children should know that all of those experiences are temporarily unavailable. Building that awareness into the trip in advance avoids the disappointment of discovering the closure at the park. For families with kids who are Bluey fans, the upcoming transformation is genuinely exciting news, but it means those particular experiences will not be available on current visits.

On the parking lot situation, guests driving to Animal Kingdom today should be prepared for the possibility of affected areas in the lot and should follow Cast Member direction if any zones are restricted while the situation is being managed.

Animal Kingdom is always worth a full day visit. The current changes are temporary by design and the park’s core offerings, the safari, the rides, the live entertainment, and the Tree of Life itself, are all fully operational. If you are heading to Animal Kingdom soon, check the My Disney Experience app before you go for the most current character locations and any operational updates, and share what you find in the comments if you spot anything new on the ground.
