Buses, boats, the Skyliner, and the monorail allow guests to move between parks and hotels without worrying about traffic or parking. That convenience alone has convinced many visitors to stay on the property instead of choosing nearby offsite hotels.
For years, Disney also sweetened the deal with a long list of small but meaningful perks. Complimentary items, helpful services, and unique guest benefits helped make resort stays feel like something special.
However, as Disney vacation prices have steadily climbed, some of those extras have quietly disappeared. And by 2026, the list of missing perks has grown large enough that some guests are starting to question whether the value still feels the same.

1. Goodbye to Free MagicBands
For many Disney fans, MagicBands became one of the most recognizable parts of a Walt Disney World vacation. These colorful wristbands served as your room key, park ticket, Lightning Lane access point, and payment method all in one.
For years, Disney resort guests received complimentary MagicBands before their trip. Guests could choose colors, have them shipped to their homes, and arrive at the resort ready to start their vacation immediately.
That perk is now gone.
Disney shifted to the newer MagicBand+ system, which includes interactive features throughout the parks. But instead of including them with your hotel stay, guests now need to purchase the bands separately.
While some visitors still enjoy collecting them, the free perk that once came automatically with a resort booking has disappeared.

2. No More Take-Home Toiletries
Another small tradition that quietly vanished involves the toiletries found inside Disney resort bathrooms.
In the past, guests received individual bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Many visitors treated them as tiny souvenirs and brought them home after their stay. It was a small touch, but it added to the feeling that Disney had thought about every detail of the guest experience.
Today, most Disney World hotels use wall-mounted dispensers instead.
The larger containers help reduce waste and make housekeeping easier, but they also mean the days of bringing home those complimentary Disney-branded toiletries are over. Guests can still use the products during their stay, but the take-home element has disappeared.
3. Park Purchases No Longer Sent to Your Room

If you bought souvenirs during the day, you didn’t have to carry them around with you. Cast Members could send those purchases directly to your Disney hotel room or to the front desk of your resort.
That service made shopping far easier, especially for guests planning to stay in the parks all day.
Disney discontinued that offering several years ago, and it has not returned. Today, guests must either carry their purchases themselves or arrange to ship items home.

Disney officially ended Magical Express in 2022.

Resort guests also enjoy access to onsite dining options, including restaurants located directly in the hotels. Many of these locations offer themed environments that can feel like attractions in their own right.
Another helpful perk is free overnight parking at Disney resorts, something that was briefly charged during previous years before Disney eliminated the fee.
Disney hotel guests also receive earlier booking windows for Lightning Lane passes and dining reservations compared with offsite visitors. Those early access opportunities can make a big difference when planning a busy park day.

The Disney Resort Experience Is Changing
Disney World hotels still offer plenty of convenience, theming, and proximity to the parks. For many families, that experience remains worth the price.
