The Jurassic Park franchise is taking things back to the beginning with its next installment.

Unlike many other franchises, such as Star Wars and Harry Potter, Jurassic has always pushed the story forward with each new film and has yet to go down the prequel route. Last year’s Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) was no exception, as it takes place five years after Jurassic World Dominion (2022). But soon, Jurassic will take the series back to its roots.

Jurassic Park Is Going Back to the Beginning

Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA), currently in development at Saber Interactive, might be a video game, but it’s also an official sequel to the original 1993 film by director Steven Spielberg. Set just 24 hours after the events of that film, it follows InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi (Payal Mistry), who has become stranded on Isla Nublar after failing to evacuate.

Per the official website, Jurassic Park: Survival takes place on “a fully realized Isla Nublar.” While it isn’t fully open-world, players will still get to explore the island and its abandoned park as they try to survive the dinosaurs using intelligence, stealth, and available resources.

The first-person action-adventure title is yet to get a release date, but last summer, fans were treated to a behind-the-scenes featurette that showcases the gameplay, the dinosaurs, the lead character, and the environments, which include familiar locations like the Visitor Center and the park gates, as well as never-before-seen areas only hinted at in the 1993 film.

Future Jurassic Movies

Future Jurassic films are expected to continue under the World banner — which is hardly surprising given how successful the newer films have been at the box office since the rebranding in 2015 — Survival will operate under Jurassic Park, which makes sense given its close proximity to the first film.

Jurassic Park: Survival

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making,” the official synopsis for the game reads.

It continues: “Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”

Jurassic Park: Survival will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
